Do you like a free tool? Send money. Do you use a tool at work? Convince your employer to sponsor it. Stop marketing OSS as free stuff to your employer, and treat it as a cost for the company. You only endanger the OSS project, if you don't give something in return.

Just started the course and am already pretty excited about my progress! In the "Match my curve" section, I was even able to get a 100% match. Hopefully I get something special since it was Josh's favorite 😁

We’re live!! My brand-new course, “Whimsical Animations”, is now available. 🥳🎉 whimsy.joshwcomeau.com I’m so excited to share all of my animation tools and techniques with y’all. 😄

Mattia doing weird stuff again: nuking the git history of the Material Theme again and renaming the repo to something different. Again, a great example on what not to do in OSS.

in medicine, there's the famous saying "when you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras" to suggest that you should not think of exotic diseases first when there are simpler, more common explanations. this was a nazi salute and nothing else. ffs.

me: let's use regex to parse the AoC inputs this year also me: *keeps forgetting that wildcard matching is greedy in regex* did I just spend over an hour trying to find a bug in my algorithm just to realize I parsed the input incorrectly? maybe

My favorite framework just keeps getting better and better!

Astro@astro.build

Astro 5.0 is here. Content layer, server islands, simplified prerendering, type-safe env, @vite.dev v6. All stable. Go see what you can do 👇 astro.build/blog/astro-5/

My prediction was correct: had to change a lot in the database schema due to changed requirements and while refactoring the tests was a huge pain, I am sure that it could have been much much worse!

I went for a walk today! I know, that doesn't really sound impressive, but as I have battled with long covid for the past year, this is actually a huge achievement for me 💪

the main reason I do not want to use Cursor, Github Copilot or inline AI tools: I feel that they hinder my learning. I want to tackle harder problems by myself to grow my knowledge. AI is great to get unstuck, but even then I wait some time and mostly I ask for hints, not specific solutions

Not posting this over there but cookie banners are NOT the issue. Sorry to my friends in 🇺🇸, if that's your opinion, it's an L take. Making "Reject all" difficult to trick users into clicking "Accept all" is the problem. That and sharing data with 850+ "partners" to "improve services"...

I'm not a fan of TDD. but even I have to admit that sometimes there are situations where it absolutely makes sense to write tests for your code and go for the "red, green, refactor" cycle

being a JS dev is like every day discovering that the Boolean type is actually a megabool

how to fix 80% of bugs 1. find unnecessary accumulating state 2. derive it from existing stuff on the fly

if you're anything like me, you probably have a lot of stale git branches lying around your projects. I was annoyed today that I a) keep forgetting to delete them when a PR is merged and b) that there is no interactive way to delete them, so I wrote a quick CLI tool

As much as I dislike the AI hype train, this will be true in the not too distant future

Pretty sure that soon you'll need GenAI for your app as often as a database. And the same concerns apply. Security, performance, observability. A lot of devs are going to need to upskill.

Vim trick of the day: "dib" As someone who is using an ISO layout, using "di(" to remove everything inside parentheses is pretty annoying. Thankfully, swapping "(" with "b" still performs the same motion! Neat!

You are up to date.
