Bollen writes about financial malpractice, economic dogmas and their alternatives. His work examines how financial systems shape society. Together with Carlijn Kingma and Martijn Jeroen van der Linden, he developed ‘The Waterworks of Money’, a project mapping the international financial system.

In search for the right way to rebel, Beckerman guided us along a range of questions: what characterises great dissidents? How does dissidence differ from activism? And what distinguishes ‘good’ from ‘bad’ dissidents? (hint: collective liberation beats individual freedom) 📸 Aad Hoogendoorn

🍄 Anna Tsing on the Patchy Anthropocene How do we live in a world already broken? On May 28, anthropologist Anna Tsing joins us to explore fragmented landscapes shaped by extraction and ecological crises, and how new forms of coexistence emerge in damaged environments.

The conversation was sharp, surprising, and at moments uncomfortably recognisable. We loved having a full house for this one. See you at the next one. 🙏

On Tuesday, May 19, we welcome Nobel Prize laureate @pkrugman.bsky.social 🎙️ In a world of rising geopolitical tensions and trade disruptions, he will explore the forces reshaping the global economic order. How vulnerable is the global economy - and what's at stake for Europe?

Together, they will unpack their new book Muskism: A Guide for the Perplexed. In this highly anticipated work they examine Elon Musk not as an individual, but as a symptom and avatar of our postliberal age. Musk isn’t a glitch in the system—he is the system.

Feb. 12, we welcomed two of Europe’s most influential and thought-provoking intellectuals: Arnaud Orain, renowned economic historian and Caroline de Gruyter, award-winning journalist and one of the sharpest observers of European politics and the state of the liberal order.

Orain argued that the neoliberal dream of uninterrupted growth is dead, the world and its resources are now perceived as finite and capitalism shifts into violent mode. He calls this mode “Finitude Capitalism” with new examples showing up around the world every day.

On Thursday, February 12, we welcome two of Europe’s most influential public intellectuals: Arnaud Orain, renowned economic historian, and Caroline de Gruyter, award-winning journalist.

Together they will explore how this shift from liberal to predatory capitalism emerged, who stands to gain – and who loses – in this zero-sum landscape, and what the implications are for Europe’s economic and geopolitical future.

On Thursday, February 12, we welcome two of Europe’s most influential public intellectuals, Arnaud Orain and Caroline de Gruyter, to Rotterdam on occasion of the Dutch translation of Orain’s new book, ‘The Finitude of the World: Boundless Capitalism from the Seventeenth Century to Today’.

As we wrap up 2025, we wanted to pause and say thank you. Thank you for attending and for being part of the conversations that matter. We're taking a moment to rest and recharge, and we hope you are too. We can’t wait to welcome you all back in 2026.
