@henninghampress.bsky.social I just got my copy of Foulness that I signed up for almost 4 years ago. I can’t imagine what you must have gone through to get this out. I’m so touched by your efforts. Thank you.
There’s something kind of beautifully elegant about this post showing up right under a @garthgreenwell.bsky.social post for his Relevance of Art lecture.
"I was told," said the princess, "that the point of fairy tales is not to tell children dragons exist, but that they can be killed." "Oh, absolutely!" said the dragon. "You agree?" "These rich, selfish, powerful, cruel beings that need killing, did you think they're literally dragons, princess?"
I mean, obviously there is no god. It’s the only explanation for how our society can continue to exist while we suffer this kind of behavior to go unpunished. www.mississippifreepress.org/police-shoot...

"... greeting even our dearest with abbreviations like 'Good morning' when the true thought in our breast is 'Every day you step into my life, you make it brighter, and if you left the world, something in me would starve for you forever..." 😭❤️ (From @adapalmer.bsky.social's Perhaps the Stars)

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.
I’m really fucking tired of all of these powerful people telling their generally powerless (on an individual level) constituents that only the constituents can fix this mess.

@kentremendous.bsky.social and @joeposnanski.com - you guys have this Dodgers thing all wrong. It STARTED with investigation into the financial shenanigans. Those shenanigans coming into regulatory focus forced the sale of the Lakers.

This is brought to you by the people who believe that only men should be in the service, and no service wife should have a job. It's absolutely going to negatively affect readiness, and it's going to substantially harm many military families. It is something that, in fact, reduces lethality.
Today in "this administration totally supports The Troops", service members are getting notified that their children will no longer be provided with transportation from day care to elementary school. When your work day starts at 6:15 AM, that's a problem.

@nameshiv.bsky.social - this reminds me of a certain story you famously told
Overnight, a masked bandit broke into our kitchen. Armed with opposable thumbs, he proceeded to sample everything on offer. I’d just visited the farmers market, so the menu was extensive. I can now share a highly specific peer-reviewed list of what this particular raider did & did not enjoy. 🧵

People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.
“If immigration hadn't picked up my brother, my sister-in-law would still be alive, and the children wouldn't be going through this sorrow,” he said. “Unfortunately, immigration — the [U.S.] government — doesn't see that. It makes no difference to them.” www.stlpr.org/law-order/20...

If you missed Dorothy in the NYRB annual sale, here’s another chance! Not a recent purchase for me, but I’d highly recommend Pip Adam’s New Animals…just an odd, strange read that’s stuck with me for a long time.
The sale is in honor of our having had to reprint nearly a quarter of our titles in the past year . . . and printing is $$$! Any older Dorothy gems you've been meaning to pick up? Well, they're ALL currently in stock . . .
I finished Everybody's Perfect by Jo Walton yesterday & felt kind of the same as this review (which I read after I read the book). I know she loves world building. She writes about it a ton, but this felt almost like only world building, albeit well done. ancillaryreviewofbooks.org/2026/06/30/a...
