This @nytimes.com article is so badly written. \ Every statistic quoted is about "feelings". The one question that matters, whether a 30-year-old today is materially worse off than a 30-year-old in 1990, is posed in the standfirst and then, somehow, never tested? www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/n...

nytimes.comCan’t Afford a Home. Can’t Afford a Baby. Can’t Afford Life. This Is 30.They’re trying to build middle-class lives in New York. But many 30-year-olds in the city feel worse off than their parents. Is it average adult angst? Or something more enduring?

And then the people it talks to: The Bay Ridge husband earns about $5,000 more in real terms than in 2020 - a real-terms raise during an inflationary spell, is somehow as a grievance. Several who call themselves well paid: it's the very group that research shows has fared best.

There's *so* much more. Mismatched baselines. “13 Going on 30" as if that's meaningful. Talking about Mamdani voters as "Rage fueled by rent and gas prices” - this is a population and place people probably don't drive? And more besides. It's just a terribly written piece. How did it get published?

They could have just quoted evidence: for example - median home prices adjusted for inflation have almost doubled since 1990, while median real weekly earnings for young workers rose only modestly and fell for young men.

Also: Homeownership: by 30, 42% of millennials owned homes versus 48% of Gen X and 51% of boomers, but by 38 millennials are essentially level with Gen X at 66%. Debt: median student loan balances for 30-34-year-olds went from $6,000-7,000 in 1992 to $20,000 in 2022 (inflation-adjusted).

It poses a question the article does't - or refuses to? - answer. “Is it average adult angst? Or something more enduring?” is a hedge dressed as an inquiry. It spends so much time on mood and ends on a *woman with TEN roommates* feeling liberated.

I would like to see precisely what advice was given that would fulfill a duty of care obligation. bsky.app/profile/raps...

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, who is out for the season after several blood clots were revealed in his lungs. Before the London game, Hurts was in the hospital until 4 am and did not sleep because sleep was a risk. He played the game without having slept. Crazy.

Hey folks. In total honesty my tour is NOT selling well. I’ve sold 30 tickets in a 400 seater in Birmingham, and not much more elsewhere. If you like musical comedy, if you like standup, then please come see my show! And spread the word! The Rachel Parris Songbook tour starts in Nov! Link in bio! 🎶

I should think that a fair number of Man City's (non-Abu Dhabi) partners will have asked their lawyers to confirm what clauses and circumstances exist for early contract termination/renegotiation should it be necessary.

It's never been more important - and urgent - to support investigative sports journalism and, to do this, @playthegame-org.bsky.social has set up a new initiative, which I hope many of you will contribute to. Spread the word, and help us protect sport and the values we believe it should represent.

Paul McCartney, for so, so, so many reasons. Isolate/listen to the bass lines in All My Loving, Oh Darling, Hey Bulldog, Taxman, ADITL, Come Together, Dear Prudence, Lovely Rita, I Want You - melody/counter-melody, and frankly, simply ask "How did he think of that?" Genius. bsky.app/profile/brai...

I feel like we all need a universal coping mechanism. So let’s share your favourite bass guitarist or bassist.

Perhaps Jim has lost so much confidence in the UK, it can only be restored by having the taxpayer be relied upon for the hundreds of millions of pounds in infrastructure funding without with Man Utd's new stadium effectively can't proceed. www.bbc.com/news/article...

It's not Laura's territory necessarily - it's Steven Ginsberg - but I do wonder what @laura-williamson.bsky.social thinks of this highly representative set of five men. You can do so much better than this, @theathletic.com. bsky.app/profile/thea...

I'd be more surprised if the police / intelligence services (if suitable) weren't aware and hadn't deployed resources such as spotters accordingly. There might be more value, for example, in the gathering of intelligence than (the appropriateness of) arrests today. bsky.app/profile/joxl...
