What's on your bookshelf that the Internet Archive doesn't have? There's an app for that. Scan a book's barcode or ISBN to see whether the Internet Archive needs it for preservation and digitization. Scan your shelves. Save a book. help.archive.org/help/donate-... 🧡

I made this design in 2019, and it’s been ripped off by countless creepy little Temu shops, as well as by Shein. Seeing it in an AI ad is ruining my day, ngl. If you like it, buy one from me - link in bio. I actually give money to queer mutual aid and medical care groups.

I had to chat to an AI customer support robot today and it was a revelation. It listened to me, understood what I said, and made intelligent leaps instead of just reading the next question in the script. Mostly this reveals that human intelligence is a very low bar.

Dear BBC. (Is @bbcnewsnight.bsky.social the only BBC Bluesky account?) I'm begging you to hire a copyeditor. I promise you that they don't have to have gone to STANFORD. (Only one "D".) Since you clearly don't have one, anyone who knows how to use a spell check would be a cheap start.

Just have someone from More or Less in the corner of the screen at all times. Better still replace the News across the board with More or Less 24, a new channel with facts on it.

"Overall carbon emissions have increased" in the UK, because of Net Zero, Kemi Badenoch repeatedly tells the BBC, to no pushback. Just completely untrue

Happy Birthday Link, The Legend of Zelda is 40 years old today. I was 6. A bit disappointing that Nintendo hasn't done anything to celebrate, I guess?

Why do officers of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency need to be armed with lethal weapons? Serious question.

The Infinite Monkey Cage was genuinely one of the best things the BBC produced, and if it continues without Robin, it will be infinitely poorer for it. I can't overstate how much respect I have for @robinince.bsky.social for standing up for human rights, for equality, and for kindness.

Robin Ince@robinince.bsky.social

Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

While a theoretical path exists for the US President acting as an individual to sue the BBC, the legal doctrines of foreign sovereign immunity and the First Amendment's high protections for speech about public officials make such a lawsuit exceptionally difficult to win.

The new "cheaper" Tesla cars don't have any kind of radio in them. No AM, no FM. You shouldn't buy cars from fascists anyway, but car radios are often becoming many peoples last broadcast receiver.

Without even that, the technology of our entire lives has a single point of failure - your internet connection. When that fails, even in the mildest of emergencies, you are completely cut off, with no way to receive information of any kind. This will not end well.

Political violence is a symptom of a diseased state, not the cause. When peaceful avenues for change are systematically destroyed, do not be surprised when people seek other paths. A regime that rules by force and fear relinquishes its right to condemn violence used against it.

There's nothing wrong with flying your flag as an act of patriotism. But the people doing this on poles they don't own (and which are not flagpoles), aren't patriotic, they're nationalistic. They're not celebrating their country, they're advertising their hate of others. www.bbc.com/news/article...

VPN endpoints with the lowest latency to the UK are in the Netherlands, specifically, Amsterdam. Ireland, Germany, and Sweden are also pretty close and therefore good choices, but the Netherlands apparently has a good pipe. Just in case that's useful to anyone.

The AI upscaling used for the Live Aid rebroadcast became obvious almost immediately, with long shots of the crowd appearing as if viewed through some kind of diamond-shaped screen door effect. I guess I understand why they thought they had to do it. But a simple scale would have worked just fine.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy. I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

I've had actual arguments with people about "Separating art from the artist." There's no separating this. Like Idk what to tell you, but trans people should be more important to you than like dobby the elf or whatever

J.K. Rowling is using her wealth attained from the "Harry Potter" series to create an organization dedicated to removing transgender people's rights "in the workplace, in public life, and in protected female spaces.” πŸ”—: bit.ly/3ZBRxYk

It was inspired by the Maidenhead Locator System, commonly used in Amateur Radio, but is far more concise, and also has the feature that truncated codes are still valid, just less precise.
