ICYMI: Why did Zuck get smacked with $25B for Cambridge Analytica? Scroll thru the jury decisions here. Meta is a proven liar. Trust the jury! www.techpolicy.press/eight-years-...
After jury rules against Meta for deceptive practices, it has been ordered to pay $25 billion penalty in New Mexico Cambridge Analytica case. Cost of doing business but the ghosts still haunt Zuck. www.cnbc.com/2026/10/21/m...
We are just fundamentally bad at regulating tech. This was an easy one. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/02/t...

The word “Cambridge" appears 45 times in the $17 billion Meta child-harms settlement, notes Jason Kint. Buried inside: a $459,293,017.80 payment resolving Cambridge Analytica claims across at least 46 states and two territories.

This is one reason why I suspect that slopulism of all types structurally tends toward being at least antisemitism-adjacent, even when the individual political elites who are pushing it are not themselves antisemitic. (Some of them might even be Jews.)
Antisemitism is structurally necessary for Elon Musk's politics, because he wants to brand himself as the insurgent populist fighting the elite, but as the world's wealthiest person, he needs a definition of "elite" that is not strictly rooted in wealth or corporate ownership.

I am broken-hearted at the terrible news that my alma mater, @hampshirecollege.bsky.social, after 56 yrs, is closing. Its death is a victory for conformism, for corporatism, for higher education's dull love of hierarchy & status. It's a grievous defeat for imagination & experimentation.
Hungarians, Put in your Subject Access Requests and do the Cambridge Analytica technique to assert the GDPR. Data Rights only work when you flex your muscle.
🔎📱 Just before Hungary’s election, we revealed Viktor Orbán’s intelligence agencies secretly use Webloc – an Israeli mass surveillance tool tracking hundreds of millions via smartphone ad data – making Hungary the first confirmed EU user, likely violating GDPR. @vsquare.bsky.social @citizenlab.ca

The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.
As President Donald Trump’s unauthorized war on Iran with Israel entered into its second month, some Democratic officials were looking around and wondering: Where are the anti-war protests this time around? And why are college campuses so quiet? @lauren-egan.bsky.social takes a look.

This is some of the most important reporting to come out of the war on Iran so far. And it's nice to see CBS doing it, i.e good reminder that bad leadership doesn't mean that every journalist there instantly stops doing their job.
