IT'S ROBOT DAY! My new novelette “Ladd’s Robot Repair” is free to read today in Lightspeed! A fiercely independent scavver boy. An overprotective robot butler. Mutant children, signal-beasts, and the end of the world. This was an absolute joy to write. I hope you enjoy it!

lightspeedmagazine.comLadd’s Robot Repair - Lightspeed MagazineI wasn’t even two blocks into the Tumbledown when the walker’s nav crystal started fuzzing out. She veered left like a scavver drunk on coolant, and I knew I was in trouble. I tried sweet-talking her ...

Went to make an appointment with a health provider via phone and an automated voice said the call was being transcribed by AI. I asked them to turn it off and they said they couldn't, it was company protocol. They could not tell me what their privacy policy was or who processes the call.

My go-to recurring stress dream used to be that I was back in grad school. Now my stress dream is I'm back in a notes meeting with Amazon Studio execs.

Congratulations to Lightspeed & Nightmare for funding but especially to all of us who love great short fiction. Everybody wins! If you supported this campaign you've helped the SFFH community thrive. And there's still time to help out if you haven't yet!

We did it! The LIGHTSPEED + NIGHTMARE Kickstarter is now fully funded! Thanks so much to everyone backed, shared, or helped spread the word. We couldn't have done it without you! The campaign is still open for another 59 hours, so there's still time to back it if you haven't already. bit.ly/LS-NM-26

Featuring a new Ladd's Robot Repair story, RUSTY ON THE RUN. I can't wait to share and I'm so proud to be among so many great authors in this anthology!

Lightspeed has $10K to go to reach its Kickstarter goals and only 4 days left. Lightspeed published my first short story and has been a great home for my fiction over the years. They respect writers, pay professional rates, and run a tight ship. Please consider supporting!

I'm watching that TV show, what's it called? The High School Where All The Girls Have the Same Hair and You Can't Tell Them Apart and The Students Are the Same Age as the Teachers.

🧵 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art. And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/

Question for any authors who have had recent contract dealings w/ Must Read Magazines & ASIMOV’S. Have they asked you to surrender copyright of your stories to them? They want me to create new cover art & they want to own copyright of the art. Seems like a pretty outrageous rights grab.

I just don't think we need, in 2026, a story about a high school student bullied to the point of bloody homicidal revenge on the other students. Who are we supposed to root for? The bullies? The school shooter?

In high school, every Saturday me and my buddy would hit the record shop, buy a new album, then hit the comic book store and load up on new floppies and back issues. Then we'd sprawl out on his bed and listen to music and read and swap comics all day. PERFECT DAY.

If you're screenplay requires your MC to explain the theme of the movie out loud to a psychologist, and for the mechanics of the plot to expositioned to the audience by passages from the psychologist's book you have not written a screenplay you have written story notes.

Can you really say you have lived an authentic life if you have not tried to watch Saturday morning cartoons through the TV static induced by your mom's vacuuming?

Glitch Techs and the whole crew behind it deserved so much better. Some of the best people I've ever worked with who loved animation and cared deeply about the show. I'm always glad to see it mentioned and not forgotten.

Glitch Techs! I pretty much can't go a month without talking about it with someone. Season 3 is technically half finished, but Nickelodeon and Netflix have been dragging their feet on renewing it and keep cancelling shows like a BUNCH OF BITCHES- Sorry, sorry, I just . . . really like Glitch Techs.

In a bad mood today for reasons. If I don't write, I'll still be in a bad mood but have no words done. If I do write, I'll still be in a bad mood but have some words done. So I should write. But my bad mood doesn't care about my logical mumbo jumbo.

If The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension were made today there would be 7 movies about each individual Hong Kong Cavalier with a post-credit scene in which Banzai recruits them, plus an animated prequel series and a prestige live-action series about the World Crime League.
