🔬 Four #ARCTECH doctoral candidates represented the network at #MBoA2026 in Cambridge, sharing research through oral and poster presentations while connecting with the international #archaeal research community. Congratulations to all participants! #Archaea #MSCA #EMBO #HorizonEurope

Congratulations Will and all co-authors!

Our new paper showing two new doxycycline mechanisms against the ribosome has been accepted at Nature comms! 👌 The early access version is available here: www.nature.com/articles/s41... @daumlab.bsky.social @the-gold-lab.bsky.social @lsiexeter.bsky.social @exeter.ac.uk

We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoc to investigate molecular mechanisms of microsporidian infection using soft X-ray tomography, cryo FIB-SEM, and cryoET. If you are interested, do not hesitate to get in touch and check out the application link. The closing date: 21st June 2026.

Congratulations to Sreehari Gopinathan, winner of the Karen Davies Poster Prize at the CCPEM Spring Symposium 2026. The prize (newly established this year) honours the memory of Karen Davies, a much-valued colleague and friend in the cryoEM community, who sadly passed away in 2025.

An exciting PhD opportunity investigating ribosome hibernation in cancer is available in my lab, in collaboration with Steffen Scholpp and Ke Li! The interdisciplinary project will span cell biology, structural biology, and AI-guided modelling. Please get in touch if you are interested!

Thank you so much Yann, Emmanuel, Oliver, Vasanthakrishnan, and Raynald for hosting me at IGDR in Rennes. It has been great to learn all about your amazing research and to enjoy your fantastic hospitality!

This is incredibly beautiful, and the fact that the resolution is sufficient to follow the path of DNA spooling inside the virion head and through the tail is amazing

Yesterday, we celebrated the life of Deryck Mills, an amazing colleague and friend who touched so many of us and passed away far too early. A day of emotions; tears, laughter and gratitude.

Really enjoyed giving a public talk at the town hall in Eppstein, Germany, sharing our research with the local community. Many thanks to the Kulturkreis Eppstein for organising.

Check out this lovely S-layer review everyone!

Arthur Charles-Orszag@acharlesorszag.bsky.social

Archaeal S-layer proteins can adopt different symmetries that can locally accommodate areas of high curvature. The S-layer is also involved in the control of turgor and osmotic pressure, ion transport, cell-cell interactions and mating.

The S-layer is a crystalline protein coat found at the cell envelope of most #archaea, forming a hexagonal symmetry resulting in geometric pores. These self-assembling structures have exciting potential for #nanotechnology! The stunning images were provided by the Daum lab. #ARCTECH #microbiology

Here is a shoutout to @quaxlab.bsky.social, who is an amazing collaborator on this project and just joined BlueSky. 🦠🔬Wellcome Tessa! #ArchaeaSky @archaeabiotech.bsky.social

Check out our structure of the archaeal virus HFTV1! Amazing work by two students - Daniel Zhang and Becky Davies, supported by @mathewmclaren.bsky.social. Great collaboration with T. Quax & S. Schwarzer, @hanna-m-oksanen.bsky.social, @the-gold-lab.bsky.social, @misha-isupov.bsky.social & W. Stuart.

Exciting news! 🚀 We're launching #ARCTECH, the first EU-funded MSCA Doctoral Network focused on #archaea —a fascinating and resilient domain of life with great #biotech potential. By addressing key gaps in archaeal research, we aim to unlock the vast potential of these #microorganisms. 🦠🔬
