Every October and early November, when temperatures are between 3°C to 18°C, Chinook Salmon, Atlantic Salmon, and Coho Salmon migrate upstream from Ontario’s Great Lakes to lay their eggs before winter settles in. There were lots in the Humber River today!

We were pleased to take part in the Canada Water Agency’s Workshop on Water Security and Freshwater Data this week in Winnipeg. It was great to connect with water champions from across the country and discuss the vital link between freshwater data and water security. @kbalp.bsky.social

Shout out to Conservation Lac Brome for uploading data to Great Lakes DataStream! Conservation Lac Brome has led a water quality monitoring program since 2008 on the six main tributaries of Brome Lake, located in the Eastern Townships region of southern Québec. Check it out: doi.org/10.25976/ukx...

“[Community monitoring data] is filling incredible gaps, and it is being used complementary to the government’s own data... That is a perfect model that the federal government could emulate in their water security strategy,” said @kbalp.bsky.social in this Cabin Radio article:

We’re excited to share a recent collaboration with the Government of Alberta, Environment and Protected Areas. Thanks to a new platform integration, millions of data points from the Alberta Water Quality Portal are now available on DataStream!

#WetlandsWednesday: When temperatures rise, when floods hit and when water becomes scarce, wetlands matter. A cooler planet needs healthy wetlands. Restoring them means protecting one of nature’s own defences against climate extremes. #OzoneDay @unep.org
