finally watched coyote vs. acme. i don’t get why in the world they would shelf it when it was completely done but i simultaneously totally get why they’d do it.

from experience, this is also brutal for members of the marching bands, who have to be on site sooooooo early on a saturday for this

News: The Utah-BYU Holy War game on Nov. 7 will be a 10 am local kickoff on ABC or ESPN. That is just brutal for fans for a likely top-10 matchup.

took time off for a relaxing and haunted weekend at Rehoboth Beach for the annual Sea Witch Festival. well worth it.

American Chestnut trees are so rare these days because they were blighted. Absolutely fascinating story.

404 Media@404media.co

A small grove of historic American chestnut trees has become the site of resistance against an AI data center in West Virginia. @samleecole.bsky.social has more. Read now: www.404media.co/west-virgini...

AI shouldn't be able to fire you, fire a weapon, or deny you healthcare.

Another one. The premise: Young people are cutting off their parents for minor mistakes and misunderstandings. The lead anecdote: A woman severs ties with her family for refusing to get vaccinated before her wedding — to a man who *lost his mother and brother to COVID*

truly one of the most underrated snl skits

genuinely hate that i cannot hear "roundball rock" without immediately thinking "b-b-b-b-b-b-b-basketball..."

what this also reflects, imo, is that the republicans who have put out ads this cycle criticizing trump's policies are not naming him as the source of their criticisms in ads. instead, they pretend that things like tariffs are just happening.

i know enough people whose family members, parents especially, have engaged or still engage in things that bring significant mental distress to them to know that these decisions really aren't made lightly

also, i'm less interested in this storyline than the fact that we don't treat parents who cut off their kids nearly similar. like, how many gay and trans kids get kicked out of their homes and cut off by their parents are there? i'd wager FAR more than those who cut off their parents.

gonna change my name to America. not because i'm patriotic or anything. i just really love America Ferrera.

i’m not a justin herbert hater. i’m just unclear as to why he gets so damned hyped every single year in spite of *waves arms broadly*

broadly speaking, most folks who write about policing in America after not being steeped in the subject matter do not write about it well. this is not an exception to that rule.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

“In recent years, many Americans have decided that their country’s problem was that it had too many police officers, when in fact its problem was that it had too few,” Malcolm Gladwell writes:

this is probably a rule for most subjects but as someone who has reported on policing for over a decade at this point, i actually feel like i can comment on this one.

anybody out there in or around dc looking to buy a zwift bike? I can cut you a deal and even bring it to you. DM if interested.

the 10,000 hour rule for mastery is bullshit. i’ve been depressed for over 100,000 hours and it still beats the shit out of me.

there gist of this commercial is basically “hey, your coworker is kicking ass by doing hard work. use ai to zhuzh up their work and claim it as your own.”

gonna start a podcast about starting a podcast about the true crimes of those who start podcasts

a second house, which is only frivolous because i don’t even own a first one

Peter@notalawyer.bsky.social

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

i got a summer job at a grocery store when i was 17. told them, explicitly, i could not work weekends that summer. they hired me knowing that. got a call the first saturday asking where i was because i was missing my shift. never worked a shift.
