Godspeed, sir.

Pittsburgh City Paper@pghcitypaper.com

MulletReview, aka Brandon Elliott, a former mail carrier turned “hot blonde” and East Asian buffet connoisseur, sampled Pittsburgh's local institutions, including Hokkaido Seafood Buffet. Elliott’s stated goal is eating at a Chinese buffet every day until he gets food poisoning...

Every time I go on a long bike ride in a city I am sad at the bathrooms that do not exist. Saw more public bathrooms in a single park in Youngstown Ohio than might exist in all of Providence’s parks combined.

Lack of access to bathrooms was a major problem on our ride today. Minneapolis, you need some improvements here.

I remember stopping in Betabrand’s shop in SF to browse. Anyway, same question. The lace hi-vis vest is the only thing vaguely fancy I’ve seen in this space.

On this note: Who's making high-viz suit jackets these days? Betabrand used to have fashionable cycling gear, but that was 15+years ago.

Thanks Helena for the Costco? Anyway I guess I have biked to Bryant University so I could bike here but West Homestead PA and Everett MA were way easier to bike to from Pittsburgh and Somerville respectively

#Breaking: We've learned Rhode Island is finally getting a Costco. Get updates here as we work to gather more information: https://www.wpri.com/business-news/ris-first-costco-is-coming-to-smithfield/

And my state senator Lammis Vargas (who’s done a bunch of RIPTA advocacy at the state level) has joined us, as has a third of the current 8 RIPTA board members. Really happy to see people taking this seriously.

Had this exchange with my fill-in therapist today about the life I’m trying to ensure for future me me: “i’m looking for a recipe to have the future i want” her: “it sounds like you’re writing the recipe” … me: “i’m working on making things better” her: “actually, you’re not trying. you’re doing.”

Email from Ocean State Media (our local PBS/NPR peeps) advising of upcoming Be My Neighbor Day, when my old neighbor Daniel Tiger will be in town. I visited Daniel in October 2013, but he wasn’t home that day.

We installed a very modest battery setup behind our meter, along with solar. The (pricey) local utility now buys back power when there would be demand spikes, and I am happy to take away some of the need for that peak gas usage. Tickled, honestly

GoodPower@goodpowerhq.bsky.social

Quick explainer: Peakers are the gas plants utilities turn on when demand spikes, like on a hot afternoon when everyone turns up the AC. Batteries can do that job now, and they cost less. ⚡ https://bit.ly/47topWW

I don’t use NextDoor anymore but I haven’t bothered to unsubscribe from the summary emails (which are really recapture emails and not actual summaries) and… It’s a bad time in the neighborhood to be an outdoor cat. I hope people start bringing their cats in, cuz the coyotes are having their way. 😬

While NextDoor denizens are, as several replies noted, not known for the veracity of their claims, we know there are coyotes (or perhaps coydogs or coywolves) as they’ve occasionally been caught in small groups, in headlights, on the street.

Last home match of the season (unless we somehow manage a home playoff berth) for Rhode Island FC, where tonight I get the conflicted feels of a 43 year Pittsburgher: we’re taking on the Riverhounds, last season’s champ, who knocked us out of the playoffs!

It feels wrong to be glad to see this, because it normalizes the way we are failing people, but it is still better than the alternative.

Ohio Capital Journal@ohiocapitaljournal.com

Ohio’s Cincinnati Public Schools is the first district in the nation to own and operate a parking lot where families experiencing homelessness can go to at night and sleep in their cars, and has served more than 300 people since opening this past spring ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/10/14/c...

Economy so bad, even the place we can make affordable suggestive jokes about is going under.

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

Poundland could fall into administration ‘within days’, thousands of jobs at risk. It has been owned multiple times by private equity and never recovered, over £253m debt. Misleading name. Many items priced at more than a Pound. Shoppers didn't return.
