Julia Evans has been in my RSS feed for years. I love her deliberate emphasis on learning expertise rather than being expert, and I love that so often she writes about getting better at old fundamentals instead of adding new tools. jvns.ca/blog/2026/05...

Bit of a disconnect? "So far Anthropic has chosen not to participate in the ‘look what our unreleased model can do’ math olympics, but also math tends to be a relative weak point for Anthropic." thezvi.substack.com/p/ai-162-vis.... Vs www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~knuth/paper....
“The Claude Mac client itself remains a lazy Electron clunker. If Claude Code is so good I don’t get why they don’t prove it by using it to make an even halfway decent native Mac app.” 100%. The marginal cost should be nearly zero. daringfireball.net/linked/2026/...
This is the week of "internet hot takes Claude 4," so … These examples are all with Claude Sonnet 4 with web search on, extended thinking off. General theme is that LLMs aren't very good at specific questions about how to use LLMs.
"Anthropic recently launched a new "Max" plan. Does this plan allow me to make API calls?" Basically right, but confusing. Which to be fair is also true of the docs. claude.ai/share/33f152...
"I'm working inside the Claude AI web interface, and looking at my older conversations. How can I tell which version of Claude produced these older responses?" Basically wrong. A right answer would be roughly "You can't, unless you just guess." claude.ai/share/9bf7a2...

"I'm working with FlatBuffers in Python. It seems like there is not a clean, idiomatic way to introspect on the data fields of a payload. Is this right? Why?" Right. (I think.) claude.ai/share/ac8c7f...
"How do I set up VSCode Copilot to use Anthropic with personal API keys?" Wrong. Prompting to search gives an answer that focuses on paid Copilot features, only mentioning the API key option in passing. claude.ai/share/889658...
Nice essay from Oliver Reichenstein at iA. Nice essay. People learn by doing and making: although this is an obvious and agreed statement, it should be taken much more literally and much farther than it normally is. ia.net/topics/maker...
Oh wow. This morning, I mailed a physical letter to the CA AG requesting action against OpenAI's proposed theft (notforprivategain.org), and today OpenAI announced changes to their plan (www.wired.com/story/openai...). Love seeing this level of efficiency from the USPS!
Jokes aside, it seems like OpenAI has changed the wording but not the import. Still looking for @agrobbonta.oag.ca.gov to take action here and prevent this restructuring.
Would be great to get a review from someone who's not just Schmidhubering all over the place. marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevo...
Imagine that AI labs had called it "spew" instead of "Chain of Thought." "When we allow the model to increase its spewage, the final answer tends to be more useful." Does that make Anthropic's new paper more or less interesting? www.anthropic.com/research/rea...
