arXiv limits people to 2 submissions a month, to hold back the tide of AI papers. Feels entirely sensible - today I happened to notice one person had submitted 3 papers, all AI-assisted, in September. Totally out of step with academic norms and simply not sustainable blog.arxiv.org/2026/10/01/u...

This whole “He may hate immigrants but at least we agreed the tapas was great!” media sub-genre is the lowest level of normalizing bullshit and needs to go. And, it’s based on the idiotic premise that left-wingers and right-wingers never interact. Really? Let me introduce you to families & work.

I do not want to be the party pooper, and I very much appreciate all the voluntary work put into it-but in this day and age, is it really the best way to do this with one of the big for-profit publishers, instead of a community-owned diamond open access thing? Thoughts on the unannounced (?) new submission/presentation policy for #ICA27? In principle I can see some form of limits supporting equality, but surely limits on submissions (say 3?) would be a better approach, especially given the ICA review lottery and the risk of a single ‘shot’ at it…

‘Polarization’ has become the master concept for diagnosing our current democratic crisis. But this is not polarization. It is the radicalization of the political right. By misdiagnosing it, we risk becoming complicit in the crisis. 🧵 Just out in Perspectives on Politics doi.org/10.1017/S153...

German SPD, Greens, and Linke will stop posting on X. An important step and signal. X and its owner have long become a megaphone for the far right, a venue that is actively used to encourage abuse and violence. It‘s simply shameful how many in politics, media, and academia still actively post there.

“The common metascientific practice of referring to an average replicability rate for a diverse population of results ... sometimes even across disciplines (e.g., Tyner et al., 2026), is statistically fraught and misleading.” Excellent work by @devezer.bsky.social and Erkan Buzbas.
