Core problem of social media, no-one can ignore the opportunity to dunk on the other.

Hmm. The puzzle only works if the agent has a chance to open box A after finding nothing in box B. Hence, the solution is to open box B, and if there is money, to open box A as well. And if there is not, to never open box A.

Core problem of social media, even moderates can't avoid the opportunity to dunk on the other. To the core point, yes, western Europe needs to admit their climate now requires AC in the summer, and everyone else needs to realise we're not in the hypotheticals of climate change anymore.

leave the old world and their dead empires behind

Understanding Fascism as a corruption of right wing ideology rather than actual right wing ideology, is a good point I don't think we're in a good place to litigate.

Fascism is a real thing, an ideology that takes hold of people and alters their beliefs. It isn’t just conservativism or rightism after a couple of beers. It’s politically distinct and some of its strongest opponents, historically, have BEEN right-wingers, something that has held true in the US.

One of my stupid ideas is, if simulation theory is real, then Musk bought an account, and paid someone to level that account, then logged in, and paid an NPC to level his Path of Exile character, so that he could brag about how good he was at a game in a game to people in a game.

Given that 2020 is showing itself as "The decade that tries to drive you insane", I'm just looking forward to the vibecession discourse to turn into vibecovery discourse shortly after the various economic issues finally start to show in the numbers.

One of the things this year has confirmed my opinion of is that Brexit was a failure for everyone. Not just us, but even the hostile groups who pushed for it. It hurt the EU and the UK, but not enough to cripple them, and not lightly enough that it wouldn't soon be reversed.

It's far from the largest issue right now, but I expect this is the end of NATO. It hasn't happened yet, but I expect in the next week of this shitshow Trump will try triggering Article 5. Not to get aid, but as a pretence to leave the organisation when he doesn't get aid.

I'm sure I've said this before elsewhere, but this is the truth of any large community. If an idea is so stupid only 1% of the members will consider it, and of those only 1% will believe it, then if the group is larger than 10,000, there's still good odds that a member of the group believes it.

To say it quietly, I really disliked the Muse song Unsustainable back in the day. The song used the second law of thermodynamics to critique capitalism. Except the second law of thermodynamics is a dramatically more severe problem, on a level far above capitalism.

The worst part of this is going to be that the billionares are going to start a class war because all the sci-fi stories said they did.

rowan kaiser@rowan.monster

hard to think of a better example of "you may not believe in class war, but billionaires know they're in one" than this

Since it's quiet now, I'll take this moment to say, the Roko's Basilisk question sounds like the kind of puzzle they'd use in the SCP Foundation entry exam, people who take it seriously get to be D-Class, people who think it's a joke get to be researchers.

During times of leadership change, the Russians play Swan Lake on the television. For decades in advance it was understood in the UK that "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" was the song for when Thatcher died. Have the Americans chosen a song yet?

If you'd asked me before these e-mails came out why Trump was blocking the Epstein files, and I was drunk enough, I'd have said he's afraid of the time he spit-roasted a teenager with Bill Clinton coming out. Apparently I have a severe lack of imagination.

There's been a lot of talk of late of touching the stove with Trump's policy. The problem I see is, touching the stove wasn't enough in the UK. It's going to have to be bad, and it's probably going to have to be the US, and it's going to have to be so bad the stench of burning flesh is remembered.

Fundamentally events like this are a result of how people no longer believe their votes actually affect reality.

TV entertainer and inexplicably Secretary of War/Defense/whatevs Pete Hegseth has summoned hundreds of generals from serious work all over the world to give them a short lecture on “warrior ethos”.

Unfortunately, this is the issue we're now faced with. It's not even how bad Reform's policies may be. It's the people who will campaign under that banner that could seize power. PR isn't the cure, but it will force them out into the light.

There's no way they have the framework to field enough competent MPs in that instance. Unfortunately that makes the threat of them achieving this far worse. Parliment filled with idiots and monsters.

You are up to date.
