Great news for London’s Oxford Street and its new pedestrianised area.

I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

The Tories were always economic vandals. Working only for the interest of their donors and billionaire backers. They show it every single time. From Johnson’s Bad Brexit to crashing the economy with Liz Truss. When someone shows you who they are… pay attention.

Sarah Murphy@13sarahmurphy.bsky.social

Doesn’t matter how you voted if you were front and centre in a Brexit government, actively overseeing the shrinking of our economy, our influence and our opportunities, while you rolled around in the trough. We’ll be disregarding everything you now say, thanks.

Entirely predictable. Reform UK-far right gone from demonising Polish to painting brown & boat people as rapists & criminals - now saying everyone who isn’t white should be deported. Appeasing far right never works. Meanwhile tax revenues decline and everyone gets poorer and worse services.

AI needs strong regulation. AI is making a handful of people richer at the expense of the public. It’s inevitable AI will have a detrimental effect on jobs, health, security, and what we think.. like Musk and X on steroids. Worryingly putting more control in the hands of a few billionaires.

Absolutely no one. No one. Should be buying Liz Truss’ moronic book documenting her Dunning-Kruger syndrome and lack of self awareness.

Has there ever been a politician who has responded more embarrassingly to losing office than Liz Truss?

Racist Nigel Farage who went around hissing gas noises at his Jewish school mates, “hitler was right” and “gas em all” now publishing an article in a Jewish newspaper on anti semitism. The Jewish Chronicle are clowns 🤡 (And any Jewish person supporting this mam)

It upsets me that a man who stands accused of saying ‘Hitler was right’ and ‘gas em all’ to Jewish students at his college, who refuses to acknowledge or apologise for this, and more recently has made disparaging comments about ‘globalists’ & George Soros is the Jewish Chronicle’s latest columnist.

Hmmm… who to believe… Andy Burnham or the compulsive liar who got sacked twice for lying, lied to Parliament, lied to The Queen, cheated on two wives and ignored the Ministerial Code. Tricky one.

Farage is only partly responsible for the country’s problems. It was the Tories who imposed austerity, the Tories who cut services, Tories gambled with our democracy, Tories who negotiated Brexit, and Tories who crashed the economy. Tories, Tories, Tories. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

It’s actually easier to work out why Putin wanted Brexit than it is many of the more culpable culprits Oliver identifies here…

Oliver Bullough@oliverbullough.bsky.social

I'm sure the Kremlin was delighted we voted to leave the EU, but I also think it's passing the buck to blame it on Russian interference. Russia's role in Brexit was tiny compared to that of unscrupulous hedgies, ambitious politicians and decades of lies from right wing newspapers.

Ukraine took out a Russian data centre housing bots and 50% of social media activity in the US dropped. A damning indictment of the toxic discourse Russia inflicts on the US, UK and rest of world. Theresa May could’ve done something about this but “wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole”.

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

The backstory: Ukrainian drones struck a Yandex supercomputer facility in Vladimir, taking it out. Suddenly, bot activity in US social media fell by 49%, confirming suspicions that this was the site of a massive Russian influence operation targeting US social media—mostly targeting MAGA.

Tories come out against Burnham for exposing Russian interference in Brexit. Tories knew & hid it to please their donors… destroying our country. May knew ✅ Johnson knew ✅ Truss knew ✅ Sunak knew ✅ They are traitors and should be prosecuted. www.theguardian.com/politics/liv...

The Daily Mail still thinks it has influence to sway discourse into discontent. 600k read it. There’s no reason for Andy Burnham with a large Labour majority to call an election so soon. He’s popular. And the right wing papers can’t stand that’s he likely to reverse privatisation and Brexit.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

This seems to be quite a silly front-page splash, since the mounting speculation about the PM calling a snap 2026 election is largely imaginary. (There is rather more chatter about 2027 now) A 2026 election is available at odds of 18/1 from Ladbrokes if you believe it

Trump bankrolling Russia in its war against Ukraine is a new low for the US. How Europe & UK responds is critical. The US needs to be treated as a hostile force and sanctions put in place.

Luke McGee@lukemcgee.bsky.social

When Zelenskyy calls Trump weak it isn’t just rhetoric. Trump showed the world how weak he was when he bribed with cash to vote GOP. Putin saw that vulnerability and offered him a crappy deal on diesel as a lifeline. Trump is weak and the West’s biggest enemies can see it.

Ed Davey has really boosted the Liberal Democrats. But hard to disagree that 3rd largest party should be making more noise, more column inches, backing Labour into more policy changes and debates than both Greens and Reform. They seem to be more influential with only a few MPs vs almost 80.

Kemi Badenoch proving the Tory dunning Kruger effect wasn’t in fact limited to Liz Truss. Now the crazy racist Tories have gone she’s just left with the incompetent dregs of the Conservative Party.

Fantasy Kemi-nomics. The Tories can never be trusted on the economy or economic growth ever again. IHT cut just keeps wealth trapped in the 1% and will likely never benefit normal working people. It’s an anti growth strategy.

Reform UK racists & extremists are so gaslit they’re literally voting for the thing they’re against. It’s the most dangerous type of voter. Don’t care about policies, facts, or corruption. As long as it keeps the brown & immigrants out. So they vote for a brown immigrant. Make it make sense.

Nadine Batchelor-Hunt@nadinebh.bsky.social

Meanwhile, on Facebook

Boris Johnson did more than anyone else to cause the small boat crisis by campaigning for and implementing his botched version of Brexit. He’s the architect of the small boat crisis. And it’s paid dividends to keep the Tory party in power for so long. And now Reform.

Peter Stefanovic@peterstefanovic.bsky.social

Jeez. By now even Larry the cat knows it was Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal which caused the skyrocketing number of small boat crossings in the English Channel

Open AI bots access govt agencies and secure data. If this was a teenager in his bedroom it would be called hacking and they’d be facing serious criminal charges or jail. Yet once again billionaires run wild with absolutely no consequences.

But why release this information? If it’s worthy of criminal charges? The answer: it’s a GRIFT. Their business models are failing (spend/resources outweighs profit) and they’re desperate for regulation to squash future and cheaper competitors. A monopoly is more money, and more power.

A nation so gaslit 🔥 a child shouts through a megaphone “let them drown” While billionaire purveyors of this hate (Rothermere, Murdoch, Ratcliffe, Banks etc) look with glee that we’re not directing it at them for buying everything & making the cost of living worse. We’ve become an awful country

Ash Oro@ashoro.co.uk

Why have we reached a stage where people call in to @natashadevon.bsky.social and say they want people to drown? Well headlines like this don’t help. Let’s forget that numbers are way down on years previous and just keep stoking fear and division. This is why the RNLI is under attack.
