Today I’m going to try out the Mapquest app to see if I can replace Google Maps. I love that instead of a car icon I can have a little green guy troll/goblin looking icon. Let’s see if I can get from point A to point B.

I’m disappointed that Bluesky is (at least it seems to me lately) also going down the road of people saying things for engagement instead of things they actually believe. I pose this is also why there are so many generated images that protest gen ai. They want you to point it out in the comments

Anyone recommend the reMarkable Paper Pure? Something else?

Yesterday I woke up to my kindle scribe not working. I use this thing constantly for reading, and not importantly I write all my notes in it. Tried a repair shop, no go. Tried Amazon support, whose strategy seems to be to frustrate you until you give up. Trade in value is $9 on amazon.

Went with the Paper Pro. Really happy with it, but I probably should have gone with the smaller one. Pretty glad that’s one less Amazon product in my life. iPhone is on its last leg and on its way out too.

My language habits are heavily informed by AI, except it is the AI from Dungeon Crawler Carl. #dcc “Achievement: the ghost of Steve Irwin smiles upon you.”

Let me know if this is just me: Noticed someone I know who is very "AI-pilled" and uses agents 24/7 to... start to talk IRL noticeably more like these LLMs write. Eg more heavily using adjectives like "geniune", frequently terms like "the shape of" and many more examples

I have this absolutely incredible idea for Apple. What if instead there were more than one operating system I could run on my Mac? How about MacOS Lite? Just good ole terminal + hardware. Maybe throw i3 in there or sway as a windows manager. I would literally give you real money to gtfo of my way

I believe there is an ethical and ecologically sound way to continue developing LLMs without burning the planet in the process, but there are many who thinks it should be stopped altogether. Here’s the thing, both of these groups of people have the same opponents. The financial system propping 1/2

It all up. If we remove our money/assets from the banks that are lending to these hyper scalers, when the market contracts (which it will do since all markets contract) those institutions will not be diversified with our steady cash flows. They will have all the risk and will have to remain solvent

I’m convinced the difference between the open source models and frontier models is the amount of times in one conversation a closed model says “This is a game changer”. Come on sonnet, we are troubleshooting my drip coffee maker calm down.

I didn’t want to judge to harshly too quickly so I gave it the full day. After using Liquid Glass since this morning I can confidently say it sucks. I have no design expertise so I can’t put into words how I don’t like it. I think the Legally Blonde Winamp skin (google it) looked less abrasive.

Realized about an hour ago that I couldn’t connect to any services on my local talos cluster. Checking my Tailscale logs it appears I deleted the nodes from the web UI yesterday when “cleaning up”. Now it appears I cannot connect to the nodes that are literally in the same room as me.

Sat down to fix this at 3pm. Gave myself the challenge of having everything restored in 2 hours. Had an error in my script that applied installation to sda, problem is that sda is the usb drive when talos is in maintenance mode. Fixed, but now only 40 mins until my make believe deadline! Oh no

I didn’t think this would tank local network connectivity, but past me did something clever, for security I’m sure. Past me is such a stickler for security. It’s midnight and current me is brain dead. Seems like a problem for future me.

There you have it. He doesn’t know how a country structurally sustains the use of….Tylenol? What are we talking about? I legitimately don’t know what this man is trying to convince me of other than he’s lost the plot of his own speech.

I just found out from the internet that the rapture is tomorrow. I would say good riddance, but… I hear he is only taking those who were compassionate and promoted kindness. Which means the majority of the congregation at your church will still be available to attend this following Sunday.

So is this the new normal with apps and using a VPN? I’ve noticed that some streaming platforms won’t let you watch using a VPN, but now it seems like I get a generic “this episode can’t be played on this device” when on a VPN and listening to apple podcasts?

I think perhaps we talk about using LLMs more than we use them. I’ve had to start tuning out people talking about “AI” because no one knows what is going to happen, and focusing on how bleak it will be if X happens to Y is actually metableak. I’m coining it.

Also, anyone with a M1 or greater Mac who doesn’t just run your LLM locally needs to stop paying a subscription asap. Stop feeding the madness, run locally. Takes all of 10 minutes to set up ollama, and Msty makes it pretty simple on Mac. There are few exceptions to this as a rule

It's 2015. President Barack Obama has accepted a "sky palace" jumbo jet from the Qatari government, which he'll own after he leaves office. "Everybody relax," he says in an interview with the New York Times. Everyone does. The networks then televise the military parade in his honor on his birthday.
