With huge thanks to Leonardo for making this report happen, and to all colleagues who returned stats! There is much to be grateful for in the picture it paints for the discipline …

Leonardo Costantini@lcostantini89.bsky.social

Delighted to see that the @cucd.bsky.social statistics report 2025-26 has now been published. It took a lot of work and a collective effort, and I hope the figures are helpful. They clearly show that classics remains a resilient subject: cucd.blogs.sas.ac.uk/files/2026/0...

An important read on an urgent issue. CUCD has joined many other subject associations and learned societies in raising concerns about the impact of decoupling outputs on researchers at all career stages …

Jenny Richards@jennyrichards.bsky.social

Another important contribution to the REF2029 debate raising concerns over portability, and the risks to fairness of decoupling outputs from the researchers who authored them, thanks to @mmdelgado.bsky.social @rentravailer.bsky.social @milespadgett.bsky.social.

Latest CUCD bulletin out now, with thanks to our fantastic editors for a thought-provoking set of contributions on a difficult theme.

Content and Trigger warnings... some perspectives from Classicists. I'm well aware this is a "hot" topic, and encourage cordial debate around a collection of pieces I commissioned for @cucdbulletin.bsky.social on the topic: cucd.blogs.sas.ac.uk/files/2025/0... @cucd.bsky.social

Arts and Humanities Alliance@artsandhums.bsky.social

The Arts and Humanities Alliance have written an open letter to Bridget Philippson, Secretary of State for Education, on the recently announced cuts across the sector. We are concerned that these measures disproportionately affect our disciplines and call for an urgent government review.

Excellent response on an important report. Share widely and reflect. Including class in Edi is not whataboutery but a crucial aspect of intersectionality. Validating and encouraging people from all backgrounds is essential to keeping our disciplines alive. 1/2

The Arts and Humanities Alliance remains deeply concerned by news of proposed closures & redundancies in a number of our disciplines: Languages & cultures at Aberdeen University and most recently the planned cuts to English, History, Film, & closure of Music at Oxford Brookes.

UK HE classics colleagues: any ideas for people who might make a good CUCD Secretary? Ideally have been HoD/know senior departmental roles, or at mid career on the point of applying for promotion, so would benefit. Efficient, reliable. Ideally improve representation on SC (Wales, Scotland, men).
