Force-quit killer AI. Demand a global treaty. Sign & Share: https://action.wemove.eu/sign/2026-10-stop-killer-robots-petition-EN

Select all squares containing a legitimate target. A human sees kids at recess. A machine sees whatever its code was trained to find. No machine should ever answer this. 16–20 Nov in Geneva, demand a treaty that keeps humans deciding. #StopKillerRobots

7/10 Meanwhile, leaders are shutting down dissent: Trump calls AI risks a "hoax," and Israel's culture minister threatened to strip the citizenship of filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor.

8/10 New US bills like the Frontier Act and the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act are a start, but could take years. The authors' demand: ban the sale and use of AI in military targeting, autonomous weapons and mass surveillance, now.

5/10 Earlier this year, a US airstrike involving AI hit Shajareh Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran, killing 156 children, teachers and other civilians. It was most likely a "targeting mistake" built on faulty data.

6/10 The harms are here at home too: DHS uses AI tools, including Microsoft's Azure, to monitor, arrest and deport immigrants. Biased facial recognition has led to wrongful arrests of Latino and Black Americans. AI datacenters are polluting low-income communities.

3/10 One of them has worked at Microsoft for nearly a decade. For two years they've organized with other employees and activists to expose the company's role in Israel's war on Gaza, and called on Microsoft to cut ties with the Israeli military.

4/10 Gaza, they write, was a testing ground for AI in war: Israel's military used AI to identify people to kill, with 12,000 targets generated and bombed in the first month, with little to no meaningful human oversight, per Yuval Abraham's investigation.

2/10 Tech leaders, from Altman and Musk to Amodei, Nadella and Gates, are now sounding the alarm about AI's dangers. The authors' point: we don't have to wait to see AI cause death and destruction. It's already happening.

Killer robots aren’t sci-fi. They’re weapons that pick a target and attack it with no human making the final call. On 16–20 Nov, governments meet in Geneva to decide whether to finally write rules for them. Here's what you need to know 🧵

Geneva, 16–20 Nov. This is the moment. At the CCW Review Conference, governments decide: start negotiating a treaty, or keep talking forever. 42 countries say they’re ready (Sept 2025). The UN chief and Red Cross warn we’re “dangerously close to crossing a moral red line.”

Where does your government stand? 🇫🇷 France: signed the Sept 2025 statement saying it's ready to negotiate. Hold them to it. 🇩🇪 Germany: also signed. Make them follow through. 🇬🇧 UK: didn't sign and has opposed new international law on this.

Who goes to jail when the robot screws up? The programmer? The commander? The company? The robot? The laws of war still apply. But once a machine makes the call, pinning blame on a person gets really hard. That's the accountability gap. For some, though, it's a feature.

Follow the money 💰 $100B+ in venture capital to defense tech startups, 2021–2023 💰 Microsoft, Amazon, and Google: $28B+ in military and intelligence contracts, 2018–2022 No rules means no limits on what they can build and sell. Isn't that interesting?

“But that’s just sci-fi, right?” Nope. Libya, 2020: a UN report says Kargu-2 drones may have hunted down retreating fighters on their own. Ukraine and Russia, now: some drones finish the job themselves when jamming cuts off their pilot. No confirmed autonomous kill. Yet.

Machines are bad at being human. A drone can't reliably tell someone surrendering from someone attacking, a kid with a toy from a fighter with a rifle, or a wedding from a war zone. It sees heat, shapes, and data. And its training data has baked-in gaps and biases.

What even is a killer robot? Not the Terminator. Sorry. Think drones, loitering munitions (“kamikaze drones” that hover and wait), and the software running them. The machine finds you. The machine decides. The machine fires.
