#Wikipedia editors are reaaaally close to breaking a record for the most supported petition on the site. They now have 1368 sign-ons to their solidarity petition with Wiki Workers United! The latest bump came after wikimedia hired a union-busting law firm 😕 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...

Wrote up a wikipedia article this week on an absolutely fascinating book, I'm hoping to read it soon! The Other Olympians by @michaelwaters.bsky.social. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oth... #booksky #nonfiction #wikipedia
The book dives deep into the history of gender surveillance at the Olympics, especially under the Nazis and during the Cold War. It's very relevant given today's attacks on trans people's participation in sports. It also shares the lives of cool athletes like Zdeněk Koubek and Mark Weston!
This show does such a good job of sharing queer joy in the face of hardship, I'm so happy I watched it today! Episodes are free online and around ten minutes, each highlighting a different queer community and how people created it ❤️ www.pbs.org/show/brave-s...

@flushes.app was one of the first examples of a totally unique ATproto app that was clearly built for fun. And a good protocol encourages people to create fun toys. But now it's back wit a new version... with a fundraiser in support of @trevorproject.bsky.social . Kudos to @dame.is on the relaunch.
Welcome to Flushes 2.0 The Internet's Bathroom. All-gender, always. 🏳️⚧️ Built on @atproto.com, Flushes is a silly app for sharing when you're flushing. You know what's not silly? Bathroom bills. They target & harm trans people. Try Flushes & join our fundraiser for @trevorproject.bsky.social:

You'd think that unions 🤝🏻 & the wiki ethos were perfectly aligned, not however according to the Wikimedia Foundation who are currently throwing all the union busting tools at its workers 🤯 solidarity with all those unionising.
“Solidarity with the union is solidarity with Wikipedia and its values.” - Technolalia, Wikipedia volunteer w.wiki/T3MX
I was raised to never cite wikipedia, but it's actually got pretty decent policies about how its own editors should cite sources inside its articles! Editors have a nice citation tool to make it easy, though it took me a while to learn more tricks. Here's how I cite on the site: youtu.be/S16vfioW6HI

Wikimedia Will Not Voluntarily Recognize Union a Supermajority of Its Workers Want www.404media.co/wikimedia-wa...
I missed this but 3 days ago Wiki Workers United US demanded recognition from Wikimedia! This is another huge step in their unionization efforts after the UK branch sought recognition a month ago. And the union is now on Bluesky, go check them out here @wikiworkersunited.org
Today, Wiki Workers United US/CWA demanded voluntary recognition from the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization that hosts Wikipedia and sister projects! We are hopeful that the Wikimedia Foundation will honor their stated values and quickly come to the table.
Just made the wikipedia page for Kissing Girls on Shabbat! Sara Glass's memoir is about freeing herself from the patriarchal rules of the Hasidic community she grew up in: pursuing her career, embracing her sexuality, and protecting her family. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kissing... #nonfiction #booksky
After over ten years of interviewing queer people in the rural US about their lives, Rae Garringer created Country Queers: A Love Letter to share their stories in book form: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country... (just created this wikipedia page, you can help too!) #nonfiction #booksky
Just finished starting the wikipedia pages for two fantastic books by trans women: Little Blue Encyclopedia (for Vivian) and Uncanny Valley Girls. The reviews were glowing for both, go check them out! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny...
Intrigued by a "tour de force" epic starring Achilles as a trans woman? Just made the wikipedia page for Maya Deane's Wrath Goddess Sing, a book I want to check out soon! Queer subjects are neglected in media but we can all add them to wikipedia with practice. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrath_G...
Love the premise of this conversation (not shockingly I’ve been thinking on hope, despair, and action this year) and have learned a lot from @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social and @truthout.org in the past. Excited to give it a listen! truthout.org/audio/hope-i...
Big thanks to @kottke.org for this link and other timely finds

Scientific American is being sold to LabX Media, publisher of Discover: group.springernature.com/gp/group/med... They've fired me and other union staff, ahead of June 26 vote ratification. My rates are suddenly more reasonable, if you need editing or reporting - Argonaut2026@gmail.com
I had a ton of fun reading the reviews for Justinian Huang's The Emperor and the Endless Palace, and am waiting to check out the book from my library now! I made the book a Wikipedia page for Wiki Loves Pride, but got sidetracked as I made the video: youtu.be/Kv4ZZlS5V7I
Want to help share and preserve queer history? This Wiki Loves Pride workshop looks super helpful! Happening 9 PM IST June 25: meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:Q... It's free, online, and hosted by @wmlgbt.org and the Naz Foundation
Yay!!! Stitches come out, the cutest stop-motion trans romcom, just got funded! Looks like they could use donations for some wishlist items if you want to help them out, and you can follow them to see updates as the film gets made seedandspark.com/fund/stitche...
Ever wondered why some articles get featured on Wikipedia's main page? Today I looked into how they get picked and what's up next (apparently Madonna's page has been patiently waiting for its turn for a while now) youtu.be/wgwwqpWFATU #wikipedia
Video up for how I made a wikipedia article from scratch for the book One Day I Will Write About This Place! youtu.be/b7-dmPn6D1U I was inspired by the Wiki Loves Pride competition, running right now. Books are a great starting point for learning to make articles #pride #wikipedia #wikilovespride
Just created my second #wikipedia article for #pridemonth: One Day I Will Write About This Place, by Binyavanga Wainaina. He has so many funny, smart essays and from the reviews of this book it'll be an incredible read. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Day...
There was so much rich history that went into the making of this book that I could barely introduce in this article -- if you want to dig deeper and add to the article please do! I'll put together a video on my process of creating this, likely this weekend. And go check out more at Wiki Loves Pride!

Finally made a #wikipedia article for Wiki Loves Pride! It's been fun to see so much expansion of queer lit on the encyclopedia this week. I looked at Rainbow Awards winners and made a page for "The Grammar of My Body". It's easy to get involved if you wanna edit for #Pride! youtu.be/Bpq2T8agkis
Here's the event page for Wiki Loves Pride: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Event:W... and I made a short video on signing up for the event (it's super easy): youtu.be/lNjlwivRSuc A great first edit would be to go to one of the event's new articles and expand it a little more! No experience is necessary!

Please drop your stories and experiences in US libraries in the sheet here.
If you're seeing Pride censorship in U.S. libraries–whether it's from inside the library or from pressure outside–please report it for the annual roundup. You can be anonymous. There are already *several* this year. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Tad bit late, but my latest Tuesday Take has rambled out the door! Returning to endless questions of bias on wikipedia, I wonder what it would take to expand wikipedia's guides and rules to have a more global, rather than US-by-default, perspective youtu.be/fiMn0MJm8hk #wikipedia
So...I had a great time learning about more of the queer history of Mount Royal Park, but my writeup didn't even count for my goal of participating in Wiki Loves Pride! Wanna learn more #queer history? Sign up for Wiki Loves Pride and find an interesting #wikipedia article to expand. You'll find so many good rabbitholes to explore, and you'll help future readers jump in too. I'm excited to try it for the first time this year! youtu.be/lNjlwivRSuc

JOMO (jomo.so) has helped me enjoy my phone so much more by giving me back control over the way I use it. If you use an iphone I would highly recommend it over the built-in screen time options. It's got my second rec in this series on great small creators and projects: youtu.be/dS0wK5ophVQ
It's been amazing to see so many #wikipedia editors organize in #solidarity with the Wiki Workers Union, but I've been frustrated by the points made by persistent critics of the movement. Their underlying logic tends to shut down people's ability to critique power today youtu.be/EKbPQT4--eU
