TIL that the linux blkdiscard command exists and can make a ssd show as completely erased without spending an hour overwriting everything. Was useful for getting rid of some filesystem metadata preventing reuse of a drive.

Is something going on with Discord for anyone else? I was required to change my password when I tried to login, after that I got 3 emails saying `We removed a violation` when I haven't broken TOS and never received a violation warning. Asked some friends who had no idea and said I wasn't hacked.

Just happened again. "You need to reset your password" or something like that when I opened the tab and 3 more "removed violations" emails/messages. What's going on???

am I alive? I think my PDS is working again after committing some nix crimes, force writing stuff in /nix/store, to my defense it was because I couldn't even connect to the server because it was assuming the wrong network interface name as I changed hypervisor.

also weird thing, apparently that perl script that runs on activation to create all your users runs before secret stuff so while I had a local password on my users through a hashedPasswordFile, it just wouldn't work on first boot as the secret files weren't there.

IPv4 is legacy technology and needs to be treated as such. I just wanted to VPN into my home network (headscale subnet router) when travelling and ended up with a subnet collision under IPv4. Obviously my IPv6 ULA has a very low chance of colliding and worked perfectly.

I wouldn't need a ULA if my ISP would just give me ipv6 addresses anyways but even with ULAs it's just very nice having them random so the collision chances are very low.

NixOS people, is there really not a way to make it so stuff can build even if a substituter is offline? Like some sort of an optional substituter? #nixos

You are up to date.
