The artwork for Steely Dan’s classic The Royal Scam was originally intended for Van Morrison’s 1975 album Mechanical Bliss, a record that was never released.

Delighted to track down the super rare Attractions 10” WORK recorded with the photographer Brian Griffin at Edinburgh in 1988. Their only appearance without Elvis Costello.

I can’t remember how I discovered this 1972 album by Mandy More, another of those ‘one and done’ singer-songwriters. But it’s quirky and brilliant. Any fans out there?

The Swedish pressing of Elvis Costello’s This Year’s Model on Smash Records. Different front cover photo, different back cover photo, different label! And it includes a slightly sped up version of Watching the Detectives! 😄

#ElvisCostello’s My Aim is True 5CD box is preordering for an eye watering £161.99 on Amazon. That’s £32.40 a disc. No thank you. Will wait and see if the excellent @burningshed.com will be doing it.

I was very sad to learn of Maurice MacGowan’s passing. He was an extraordinary man with a huge intellect who was still translating Latin and Greek verse into his 90s. He was a wonderful husband to Therese and father to Shane and Siobhan. I feel immensely privileged to have met him.

Probably one that I’d rescue in the event of a fire. Original paper sleeve signed by the Attractions’ bassist Bruce Thomas

“I still believe in love, peace and understanding, as Elvis Costello said, and what's so funny about love, peace and understanding?" John Lennon

It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobbledstreets silent and the hunched courters'-and-rabbits' wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea. Dylan Thomas, Under Milk Wood. #BookWormSat 🎨 Augustus John

1971, L.A. Judee Sill & friend. Fun fact. Sill was married to Bob Harris, not that one, between 1966 & 1972. In 1972 she toured the UK & appeared on "In Session With Bob Harris", that one...

The pop charts, 55 years ago - July 1971. The Who, The Stones, T Rex. For me, memories of summer holiday on the Isle of Wight. Every one of these records brings it all back!

It’s that kind of day. Pretty uncool these days, John Peel often played tracks from these two eccentric Charisma albums back in 74.

Tracking down Elvis Costello’s Japanese CD releases with bonus tracks isn’t easy in the UK. Very happy to find this one though and to hear Elvis’s cover of The Velvet Underground!
