WISHLIST HERE: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4687990/VOID_PROFIT/ Hello! Corvid Food is a one-person development team. Is it a team? Doesn't matter, I'm working on games. Hope you like at least one of them! Also @dgarvanski.bsky.social

Emails are a pain in the ass for indie developers, I assume. But there are times where you see that a person has activated your key AND they reply to your email. Even if they never play your game, let alone on a stream or video, it still feels nice.

On the localization front, it really makes your inbox a spam folder if you're making a game. It has to be researched because I'm definitely not adding an AI disclaimer for my Steam page because you pasted my dialogue JSON into ChatGPT. I can do that myself if I wanted to.

As an example for my Steam page "Останете в експлоатация" means both "Keep working" and "Stay exploited" depending on how you read it. That's the nuance I want, not some direct vapid translation.

BIG VOID PROFIT ANNOUNCEMENT! I've added a Steam page localized to Bulgarian. Why? Because I only know English and Bulgarian. Whatever. The 37 people from Bulgaria who wishlisted the game can now read the description... even thoug I guess the already knew English if the wishlisted it.

For real, though. I'm testing localization for the page and the game itself so I can be completely ready to give as little friction as possible for the eventual DONE BY HUMANS localization I'm researching right now.

And yes again. All screenshots, videos, gameplay captures, devlog drafts, design documents, random ideas, dumb code I didn't end up using but didn't want to delete because it was months of work, email templates I send for mostly no replies are in that parent space-game folder.

2,200+ wishlists for VOID PROFIT! I honestly expected about a 10th of that. Thank you for wishlisting, playing the demo and noticing my weird little space game. It means a lot. Aetrocor is very pleased to have this many potential debtors. #indiegame #spacegame #gamedev #nextfest #indiedev #spacesim

Something I've added quietly. I've tweaked the Jobs system so there are options that require a moral choice. For example, you can have a city evacuation that gives you the "Only paying passengers!" rule. Only paying passengers is income for you. But you can evacuate other people as well...

And, of course, the one checkbox that gave me a T rating on Steam - the mentioning of drugs. Are you introducing a new drug to a planet for A LOT of money or are you handing them over, which makes the underground hate you?

Evacuating more people can improve the conditions in both the evacuated and the destination planet. It can also make someone REALLY angry with you. More humane factions less so, but the assholes WILL be mad.

The duality of being my type of #gamedev dad is that my kid loves the idea that I'm making a video game. But, also, he absolutely doesn't understand the idea of a game where you follow market movement and navigate the political climate. He can tell his friends that I'm making a game, though.

Now that I'm pretty happy with the visuals, I've moved on to writing. Not in the story sense because there is no story except your own in the game. In the structuring information given to you in a natural and faction-specific way. Time willing, I should be able to do it in time for Next Fest.

This update comes with an updated Steam page too. New capsules, screenshots and trailer. Old and new capsules below. You can actually read the small one now. #gamedev #indiedev #indiegame #Steam #GameArt #SpaceSim #SteamCapsule

The inspection ships were too clean and too 3D. I flattened them, reused old textures and matched the lighting. They also warp in and out. I like green too, I guess. The traffic and moving dock lights are part of the same thing. I want VOID PROFIT to feel worn out and oppressive. No windows!

Did have to do some work on Quaternius' amazing ship models to make sure that they fit my weird oppressive vision. Replaced the textures to make all ships really bland and MAKE SURE that there are no windows. Ships in my universe have no windows, only cameras.

Still need to do some tweaking there. For example, the interception ships need to be a bit more imposing so I'll probably be "bringing them in closer" and making them affect the cockpit more. Not adding sound though. You can't hear their engines in space.

Balancing is so hard in #gamedev. For my game, I had a playtest user that made 10,000 credits in an in-game day. Then I watched the first ever person streaming my game and they were at 0 on day 4. It's supposed to be a hard game, where you can't win your first run, but still...

And that's the main issue. When you're making a very complex game you can't balance around a person that just "gets it." You need to run around people that fail and you have to push them towards success. But not to a point where anything is guaranteed. Balancing has been my burden and my gift.

There is an issue I found out with my game when watching the first ever stream of it. You would think that you can make money out of jobs. But you can't. Follow the market trend, jobs are a side thing. Aetrocor will not let you be a delivery guy.

The VOID PROFIT second #playtest is now LIVE! Anyone can request access or you can just ask me for a key. Demo has been approved and coming on October 6th (my BD) for everyone else. Request access here: store.steampowered.com/app/4687990/... #spacesim #indiedev #gamedev #indiegame #playmygame

A weird #gemedev thing I had to do yesterday - I spent the day measuring colours and spacing on old Teletext screens. Like, I had the colours but it didn't feel like actual Teletext. I want my world to be stuck in this "proto-internet" space.

Fly a rented corporate vessel in a procedurally-generated universe, navigate risky routes, profit from changing markets before the opportunity disappears and you lose it all. Take jobs, navigate the markets, smuggle, lie. #TrailerTuesday #spacesim #indiegame Here's the new trailer for VOID PROFIT:

Hard at work on the next VOID PROFIT update. Mostly gameplay balancing and systems improvements. However, needed to get to some visual updates for my own sanity. Here's a little before and after of the cockpit view. Made it deeper, more oppressive and added more details. #spacesim #indiedev #gamedev
