Repost if $30k would change your life right now

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

I went to my 2nd training shift at a gas station. They started me on register but the POS system used color coded buttons. I'm colorblind and couldn't make it work, so I left and never came back.

It is excruciatingly frustrating having lived through the era when DAWs were becoming decent and accessible and people would say "That's not real music! The computer does everything for you", only to see people accepting the AI generated slop and filth that's poisoning streaming services now.

Ok a little bit late on this but the DC x Sonic the Hedgehog crossover kicks ass. There were several times where I actually laughed during the story. Really fun for fans of both series.

Every movie, song, and book that you love was made without the technology that people who don’t make art are now insisting is necessary for making art.

"this wouldn't have existed without AI anyway, it's not taking away any potential jobs or opportunities" if you do not have the willingness or drive to make something without AI, then it shouldn't exist AI is built off of stolen labor. Want art? Do or fund the labor.

I love going to bed early and then being unable to sleep so then I will be exhausted anyway AND I couldve just been playing video games instead of this

Today I listened to Wormrot (a grindcore band from Singapore), Wharflurch (a doom metal band from Florida), and The Ocean (an atmospheric sludge band from Berlin) using a French streaming service with no algorithm. What the fuck makes you think I've heard the top country song in the U.S. right now?

I'm trying to think of the most basic video game mechanic that would be totally broken IRL. Double jump is definitely up there, but I'm leaning more towards being able to sleep on command? Although just pausing for a few seconds would be great.

Applied for a new position in my company. My current role has become mundane with no challenge and the new position would be more challenging with a significant pay increase. Honestly I give myself about a 50/50 shot of getting but we'll see.

Man, I wasn't allowed to listen to American Idiot by Green Day, read Harry Potter (honestly dodged a bullet on that one), or play console games. I didn't even get a GBA until I was 12 and I was only allowed first party Nintendo games.

What video game would your parents not let you play when you were a kid? Were you able to successful argue and/or trick them into letting you play it?

If it wasn't for the fact that I traded a friend my GBA for his PS1 for a summer I wouldn't have ever gotten into console gaming. I went all out after graduating high-school and moving out. I bought a PS3 with Oblivion, Call of Duty MW2, and Borderlands after a few months on my own.

Scoping out what candy to get for Halloween. My wife and I always get full size bars to give out to the neighborhood kids. The sheer joy and surprise when we present them the candy bowl is totally worth the extra money.

If your sandwich is fried it should be cut diagonally. If your sandwich is not fried it should be cut vertically. If your sandwich is cut horizontally you will not see the light of heaven.

Gaming in the future is gonna be wild like "Yeah man this series is great and it's really got staying power! It's been going for 50 years. Don't play any of the games released between 2022-2030 though."

Just got out of the theater watching MST3K the Rifftrax Experiment for The Sting of Death! Wonderful experience! The whole theater was in stitches during the jellyfish swarm scene! I can't wait to see more of them! #MST3K

Looking forward to the new Kirby and Metroid games and always appreciate free updates like we got for Mariokart and StarFox. I would be excited for the new Professor Layton game if it weren't for the fact that Level-5 is all in on AI. I guess I've played as much of that series as I ever will.

Just finished up Ys VIII and had a blast with it. I really enjoyed the action oriented combat and the boss fights in particular and customizing the gear and skills of the characters was satisfying! I ended up getting the true ending without even having to try just because I couldn't put it down.

Certain story points didn't always hit but for the most part I enjoyed the dual timelines story before seeing how they finally merged. I also feel like it took just a little too long to get reusable bottles to make medicines but people who are better at the combat probably won't have that issue.

Overall it's a big win for me and it definitely makes me want to check out the rest of the series. I'm debating going in Adol's chronological timeline, going in release order, or just continuing through the series from VIII. Open to suggestions.

Saw Coyote vs Acme last night. Fantastic film! Very funny! Most laughter I've heard in a theater in a while. The combined cartoon and real world visuals were handled very well and Will Forte did an amazing job of working with cartoons believable. Highly recommend if you're a fan of Looney Tunes!
