Lula’s victory matters well beyond Brazil. The result and the effort to overturn it have implications for Trump’s regional ambitions, American interference in other countries’ politics, and the challenges that can persist after voters have made their choice. Here're 5 takeaways:

1. Trump’s ambition to dominate the Americas through vassals has encountered a substantial obstacle. 2. American interference was already underway. Recognition of the result is the next test. 3. Washington has lost a prospective partner in escalating pressure on Cuba.

According to the Election Lab at the University of Florida, some 28 million people have already cast ballots. The flood of early voting is itself an expression of democratic determination to thwart the Trump regime’s efforts to discredit mail-in voting and to intimidate voters.

Plus, when people see that everyone else has voted, they want to get in on it! FOMO is real! Not to mention, it limits the likelihood of encountering last minute trouble with mail-in ballots or overwhelmed voting centers.

To put it simply: the earlier people cast their votes, the quicker campaigns can reallocate their resources towards flipping undecided voters. This is especially important during this election where many new voters are pulling away from MAGA. GOTV efforts go way farther with undecided voters.

not only do I never see video of men asking the difficult questions, I never see the men defending the women - professional peers - he abuses and I don’t expect them to protect the Black women, but they aren’t even protecting the non-Black women (today’s victim was Monica Alba). cowards all.

NEWS: The Trump Administration has filed a lawsuit to block Alaska’s US Senate race certification if the Republican candidate loses. The administration argues that confusion over candidates with similar names could taint the election result. (1/2)

This is another desperate attempt by the Trump DOJ to intimidate voters and intervene in state run elections that the president has NO role in. In America, leaders don’t get to pick their voters. Voters pick our leaders. (2/2)

A Bolsonaro victory would not automatically bring Brazil into the Shield of the Americas, but it would bring one of the hemisphere’s most consequential countries considerably closer to Trump’s political orbit Roberto Valadéz writes about the importance of Brazil’s presidential election:
