Yes it’s exhausting. And if you win one nod to active travel it doesn’t transfer so you have to start all over again for the next battle.

Andy@andydrummond.eurosky.social

It’s so tiring the way every penny of #ActiveTravel funding has to be fought for, and then fought to be retained. Every penny spent on walking and cycling is returned fivefold. Every penny spent on roads will struggle to break even. @libdemcyclewalkwheel.org.uk @greenlibdems.org.uk

Thanks for reinforcing the message.

Newcastle Cycling Campaign@newcycling.bsky.social

📢Today Google has added motor fuel prices to the maps app so you can see how expensive driving is. 🚲Not wanting to be left out we have been around the city to check on the cost of fuelling a cycle and produced our own map. 🎉It's good news - fuelling a cycle is still free everywhere.

Yep. Genuine choice with safer infrastructure and more reliable public transport is key.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

Here’s what we really need to focus a lot more discussion on — you don’t need to hate cars in order to want people to have the CHOICE to walk, bike and take public transit in your city. Better cities provide more choices, and work better for EVERYONE. Bad cities offer only dependency. #CarDependency

Because road accident reduction, safety of road users, and promoting transport options that are healthy for everyone, not just the participants, should not be a political issue. It’s just plain common sense.

📢 Oxford Greenways launch 📢 We launched the Greenways project today! Masterplan of connecting safe cycle routes. It was just great to be standing on a stage with City, County, and Uni ALL behind the project, and Councillors from 3 different parties speaking in support. Also I got a mug! 😍☕ (1/4)

Let’s hope they work properly once installed, and are maintained to keep working. 🤞

North East PTUG@northeastptug.bsky.social

Big day for public transport accessibility today. From 1st Oct ALL buses must have next stop audio announcements and visual display screens installed. Equipment has been installed on many older vehicles so we're looking forward to seeing and hearing it working. reviewmobility.co.uk/news/bus-acc...

Oxfordshire Quiet Lane. Can we have some in Cheshire please?

Cllr Emily Kerr 💚@emilykerr36.bsky.social

Thrilled to visit Oxfordshire’s first of the new Quiet Lanes: filtered to motor traffic, safe for us cyclists and walkers and horse-riders. First time I have ever felt safe to cycle to the fabulous Rectory Farm: love supporting local businesses.

Very good questions.

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

What if every city that declared a #ClimateEmergency actually acted like it’s an emergency? What if every city that committed to #VisionZero actually acted like they meant it, prioritizing human lives in decision-making? What if every city’s budget actually reflect their approved plans & visions?

‘We need to put children at the centre of our transport systems.’ Yep.

Niall Leahy SJ@nlsj.bsky.social

Listening to the inspirational @tomflood.bsky.social speak to a packed TCD theatre in Dublin last night I realised 1. We need to put children at the centre of our transport systems. GIVE KIDS THE FREEDOM TO CYCLE TO SCHOOL THE WAY WE USED TO

Sustainable aviation is an oxymoron.

Annie Leymarie@annieleymarie.bsky.social

The UK government has justified Heathrow expansion by citing the rollout of clean-aviation technologies, whist admitting it "has slashed its hopes for electric planes & 'Sustainable Aviation Fuels”...This would leave aviation emissions in 2050 ~50% higher than expected under the 'jet-zero' strategy"

Time for another consultation.

Transport Action Network@transportaction.bsky.social

The Department for Transport is quietly reviewing its road investment strategy (RIS3). But they are only consulting a small number of stakeholders. Here’s how you can have your say 👇 actionnetwork.org/letters/lets...

There is this strange idea that children levitate to their school street. Or is it motornormativity? Of course they are driven to school.

20's Plenty for Us@20splenty.bsky.social

Whenever the call for 20mph as an urban/village norm with exceptions is made, some respond with "20mph should be just outside schools". But actually, all the evidence shows that it's everywhere else in communities that most child casualties occur. It's why #20splenty wherever people are!

And the reason that parents don’t let their children cycle.

Meredith Glaser@cyclingprofessor.bsky.social

Weather and hills aren't what stop people from riding bikes—it’s fear. We can’t expect people to cycle if we ask them to put their lives on the line every time they get on the saddle, especially with their kid next to them. Cartoon by Dave Walker

An excellent point. And given last night’s cloudburst, lowers the chance of being drenched by passing cars.

John Paddington@padders123.bsky.social

Let's counter this "war on drivers" myth: 20mph makes very little difference to 30mph when you factor in junctions, lights, etc. Congestion caused by accidents is probably far more important And actually as Wales shows, 20mph limits reduces insurance costs. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Same question as before. Why aren’t parents up in arms over dangers to their children? Dangers that could be reduced with simple measures. @sarahrussellmp.bsky.social

The War on Cars@thewaroncars.bsky.social

On the one hand, some people want to make it so that kids and other people aren't crushed to death by cars. On the other hand, some people are upset that they might have to pay attention, slow down or be inconvenienced by about 15 seconds. So you can see how it's a "war on cars."

Time we modernised transport options!

Brent Toderian@brenttoderian.bsky.social

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

Exactly.

Jon Owen@anotherjon.bsky.social

Research undertaken here in the UK (see below) found that unprotected 'paint-only' cycle lanes are actually worse than nothing at all, so their only purpose is for a local authority to be seen to be delivering some cycle provision. road.cc/content/news...
