My new New Year's Resolution is to stop worrying whether my character names don't sound realistic because Oregon's football team has a kicker named Atticus Sappington. The fact that he's not doffing his top hat in the team photo is a shame.

Great conversation with Jeff that branched off into a lot of fun directions. Thanks for having me on!

I talked my friend Neil's ear off about Aliens; one of my favorite things I got to do all year.

Part Two of the Aliens Deep Dive is out now for Patreon subscribers. @comptonwrites.bsky.social and I explored the movies, ranking them from least to most favourite. Huge thanks to Johnny for the time and enthusiasm. And for weathering my controversial preferences. Subscribe - enjoy - support

Apparently em dashes are seen as evidence of AI writing. Well, based on examples I've seen, they're random, stupidly used em dashes, because AI is ignorant and artless, but more pertinent to this post, you'll have to pry my "em dashes in place of parentheses" preference from my dead hands.

Which, to be clear, will not be "cold" dead hands, because they'll be warmed by continually writing for at least seven-to-ten years after I'm buried. When my brain is dead my hands will work to finish every story that would have otherwise died with me. To quote myself from old rap lyrics...

Whenever I'm feeling haughty about all the garbage everyone else consumes on social media, I remind myself that I'm strangely addicted to "marathon cheater drama" videos. Am I interested in running a marathon? No. Will I watch and rewatch hours of videos about marathon cheaters? Damn right I will.
