Our thoughts are with the family & friends of the person who lost their life in this crash. Highways do not belong in our cities, full stop. So long as Bellevue is a city of stroads, wide intersections, & freeway offramps, these tragedies will keep happening. They are incompatible with #VisionZero.

That's why we started the SAFE Bellevue coalition -- to urge Council to approve a budget that prioritizes safety throughout all of its transportation projects. Staff's proposed budget is a good start, but it still falls short from a true safety approach in several key ways. safebellevue.com

Everything in this thread is a data-driven, industry standard best practice to saving lives on our streets. Let's move beyond simple, weaponized narratives of "Bellevue's not Seattle" and focus on the policies & projects that will help us achieve our shared value of community safety. #VisionZero
Katie Wilson is in Beacon Hill this afternoon announcing a brand new executive order targeting changes dealing with traffic safety across city government. The five-section order is beefy, and I think it represents the biggest reaffirmation of Vision Zero in Seattle since the initial 2015 commitment.
The SAFE Bellevue proposal encourages city officials to prioritize ped & bicycle connections to light rail stations in its upcoming budget. If you agree with this approach, learn more and take action here: actionnetwork.org/letters/supp...
For a city with six light rail stations, Bellevue has terrible bike infrastructure, with some very limited exceptions. Crossing the many places with freeway on-ramps is especially perilous. Even where there are paths they are often badly marked and not enough curb cuts to access them.

As micro mobility expands to Bellevue, so should the bike network for last or any mile connectivity

So many of you have been telling me to do this for literal *years*, and I'm so excited that I'm finally taking the plunge with this. But I'm going to need your help to cover the program's fee. No sugarcoating especially since many of you already know, but CSB runs lean. But we still get shit done.

But we need some help to cover his costs to attend the program! Our work already has an outsized impact on Bellevue's transportation system given our resources. This course will teach new skills and forge new connections that will grow our reach. completestreetsbellevue.org/2026/08/03/s...

112th Ave NE is next to our premier light rail station. It is 5-6 lanes wide at this segment & has no bike lanes. Our wide streets are the problem. We need leadership in staff & Council to show urgency & fix our streets. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the cyclist. www.king5.com/article/traf...
This is all the more reason Council should support our SAFE Bellevue proposal to expand funding for safe, protected & connected bike lanes on more Bellevue streets. If you agree with us, take 30 seconds to tell Council about it: actionnetwork.org/letters/supp...

In which the City of Bellevue tells me the reason they want to ramp up spending on vehicle mobility from 10% to 25% of the transportation budget...is that car projects are simply way more expensive than multimodal ones.

By our count, this is now 3 deaths on Bellevue's streets in 2026. We have matched 2025's total. It is April. Staff must listen to the direction Council has given them & truly prioritize safety on the high-speed streets that we *know* are dangerous. bellevuebeatblog.com/2026/04/25/b...
