A new survey of 1,000 American adults found that the strongest supporters of transgender sports bans are not the people who admire women most: they are the people who hold the most hostile views about women. www.helenwebberley.com/news/transge...

helenwebberley.comAre transgender sports bans really about protecting women? | Dr Helen WebberleyThe data says no. Those most hostile to women are most in favour of banning trans athletes.

It’s really that simple.

"I understand that there have been some experiments showing that LLM review may have similar outcomes to human peer review, but who cares? Either scholarship, research and publishing are human enterprises or they aren’t." www.insidehighered.com/opinion/colu... >>

This is absolutely the point.

About 2 million kids have lost SNAP since deep cuts were enacted last year. The ripple effects: Kids losing SNAP also lose automatic enrollment for free meals at school. And as more kids lose SNAP, their schools may be forced to drop Community Eligibility.

I really would love it anti-Trump journalism didn’t lead with slurs for intellectually disabled people. I /just/ did a long interview explaining why it’s a problem when the White House does it, and here you are …

Ending the week on a good note—my first doctoral mentee passed their dissertation defense. Say hello to Dr. Bareni! #AcademicSky

We need gun control yesterday, but also, school emergency plans often don't include the needs of disabled people. Even for things like fire drills, what is planned is unacceptable.

The Oregon shooter targeted a special education classroom and killed three disabled children. He shot and critically injured a fourth… a little girl in a wheelchair. This story just keeps getting worse. America… deal with your guns. nypost.com/2026/10/16/u...

Zines will save democracy.

What if you see ICE at the polls? (Don't worry! Read on for the plan!) @indivisible.org roped me in to design and illustrate a new zine! Check it out in this 🧵 - and visit linktr.ee/wewillvote to sign up for the Election Protection Program and find all the resources you need!

“The Olmstead decision established that these laws also provide a right to the “most integrated setting” possible when it comes to establishing where disabled people can receive services—and, by extension, where they can live.” That’s under attack. We will not go back. 19thnews.org/2026/10/disa...

19thnews.orgThe federal government is backing away from a decades-old disability rights promiseLois Curtis and Elaine Wilson won a victory that gave people with disabilities the freedom to choose where they live. That legacy is now under threat.

Lafayette Square isn't "a historic protest site." It's a fucking park. And it's packed on nice days. Calling it a protest site is White House framing. They're closing a popular public park to create a presidential palace Saddam Hussein would love.

nytimes.comInside Trump's Plan to Fence Off a Historic Protest Site (Gift Article)The president’s proposal to enclose a park in Washington could alter how the space has been used for generations.

Now, also imagine that as a result of a parent choosing a school like this, federal tax dollars are also given to this “school”. That’s what “SCHOOL CHOICE” legislation does, crippling the public school system.

ProPublica@propublica.org

NEW: Remember when John Oliver opened a church to expose how easy it was to get tax exemptions? This year, ProPublica reporters set out to establish private schools to test if, truly, anyone could open one. We founded two. Here’s how.

Also, I just noticed the title of the YouTube video. That is the most asinine and horrifying statement. Yes, measles mortality rate is about 3 of every 1000…but it is one of the most contagious diseases & can cause life long complications including brain damage from fevers.

The mortality rate in the US from measles has been zero for the past 25 years because we fucking vaccinated everyone until it was gone. I’m so tired of these assholes demonizing one of the greatest scientific advances of the past century. Holy hell.

I may not consider myself catholic anymore but it’s nice to see the dude at the top living the lessons I was taught at mass.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:

The staffers who assured Eric Schmitt that Jack Smith was definitely at an Atlanta Hawks game have been identified!

A challenge for those who decide on graphics to accompany autism articles—maybe AVOID: 1) A bald silhouetted human head in profile 2) A stylized human brain 3) Puzzle pieces 4) Any combination of the above Thank you. (So tiresome.)

No one on his staff even once thought to check if there were any women's games being played that night. These are the people calling themselves defenders of women's sports.

Please try to reclaim your precious precious attention, at all costs. Do puzzles. Take walks without a phone. Dear god, try to read, almost anything that isn’t a manifesto will really do. You are going to need your brain.
