Someone sent me a voice message in another language. ChatGPT was able to listen and simultaneously speak it to me in English on the fly. That's insane! People train for years to do be able to do that.

Meta makes almost 200 billion dollars a year from advertising. This logically presents a conspiracy theory that, I think, can't not be true: Negative Advertising.

If they can make $200bn from businesses trying to promote a product, then they could easily make at least a sizeable chunk of that from persons or agencies who wish to either remove or manipulate talking points. Technically it's a synch to do, and the potential cash value of it is staggering.

Or, put another way, Spotify owner Elk is further extorting peace-loving musicians' blood, sweat and tears and putting it into military hardware. There's just no other way to see this. How can this guy be so tone deaf? mixmag.net/read/spotify...

I had a dream last night that I discovered that the patterns in human irises were like QR codes that contained information about our history and personality, and we each had a subconscious ability to read them, hence why looking into someone's eyes was such a powerful experience. The cult of self has gone too far. You do not exist because of yourself, or for yourself. You have never created or done anything by yourself, or ever will. There isn't a single issue in the world that is not a direct result of mistaken self-importance.

The illusion of individual is compelling but it is a short-sighted one. You are a link in an ecological chain of life, equally vital and equally insignificant to all other links in that chain. Your autonomy is, by way of physics, tempered by the weight of this chain.

We understand that kindness is not a luxury in life, but is the root of life, which is cast off too soon and to the detriment of life. Without kindness, humans cannot live; without kindness, humans cannot achieve peace; without kindness, humans cannot progress.

Critics of 'be the change' don't get that it's not about one person changing. It's about millions of ones changing. Small changes x millions of people = big changes. Attacking 'the system' is a distraction that might just be their own reluctance to change.

I think the current trend of dissing sustainable methods like recycling or renewable energy is a very dangerous precedent. It matters more that we care enough to try. Methods may sometimes be suboptimal, but the alternative of just not caring or bothering is unconscionable at this stage.

Here's an idea: AI-generated movies with AI actors, AI-generated screenplays and music, marketed with AI algorithms to an adoring AI-generated audience of consumer bots, so humans can get back to doing what we were doing before.

I have noticed. Haven't seen a single house spider this year. Not one. And our garden is mostly silent.

Anyone spending any time outside looking even briefly at nature during 2024 will have noticed the profound absence of insects. "National Trust records ‘alarming’ drop in insects and seabirds at its sites" www.theguardian.com/environment/...

It's good to help. But... The more you help someone, the less capable and more dependent they become. So where is the line between helping and hindering? Is this something that you think about before offering to help?
