No #waxcaps on this, or any of my other usual sites so far this year. This slope has had a good range of species in recent years, including ballerina waxcap. Is anyone else seeing this ? South facing slope with severe grass die off from June to the end of August.

#RecordOfTheWeek today is this fantastic Spurilla neapolitana, also known as the 'hair curler' sea slug spotted at Oxwich by Tate Lloyd, and is new to Wales! The first UK sighting was only last year in Cornwall. Many thanks for the record & photo, submitted via iRecord. irecord.org.uk

Rainbow Sea Slug Babakina anadoni with its prey the Hydroid Candelabrum cocksii - great find by Daisy Wood, Wembury Point, Devon at the weekend. The Olympus TG cameras are great for rockpooling able to withstand impact of being dropped on rocks and also completely waterproof - I use at TG6

Thomas Pennant's (1726-1798) body of work spanned natural history, antiquities and travel. To celebrate his tercentenary, we've added his correspondence and catalogues to our Digital Special Collections: buff.ly/ZFULOe0. #Manuscripts #18thCentury #HistoryOfScience #HistoryOfNaturalHistory

#RecordOfTheWeek today is a Sponge Crab (Dromia personata), spotted in Oxwich by Zoe Foster. This species has a symbiotic relationship with sponges, which provide the crab with camouflage while the sponge gains protection from predators. Many thanks for the record & photo sent via LERC Wales App.

A mite last seen 39 years ago. We will be walking the Welsh shore looking for it, and posting as we go. The site now has a live blog, a map of everywhere we have searched, and a Welsh option. I can't speak Welsh, but this is Wales. It needed a Welsh option. Thinozercon is out there. #inverts 🧪

Years ago I learnt from Adrian Spalding that the Sandhill Rustic moth Luperina nickerlii can swim! Tried this out on Anglesey this week. It lives in coastal dunes and salt marshes and the females rarely fly so presume this helps if caught Out by spring tides.

I'm invariably wrong with my spider id 🙄 but I'm thinking these might be male & female Four-spotted Orb Weavers, Araneus quadratus. Spotted just now in my #Anglesey meadow for #WildWebsWednesday @cofnod.org.uk

Two for #WildFlowerHour from yesterday's walk in #Eryri National Park: (1) one of around 40 Common Butterworts growing from a vertical rock - the photo is the right way round! (2) Yellow Water-lilies on Llyn Cwmorthin, a fairly scarce flower in the uplands of North Wales. Both now on @cofnod.org.uk
