Sure, SSDs may be fast, but it’s comforting in my dotage to listen to a RAID 5 of spinning rust thrash around to prove how broken the most commonly used forensics software is. It’s not the same with silent SSDs, even if the latency disparities are more stark.

In Bowser’s first term, she paid a visit to Mount Pleasant. She pointed out a well-known issue and all the aides recited what they’d tried and Bowser challenged them, “so that’s it then? we’re just gonna give up?” “No, mayor, oh no.” Ten years later: yes, clearly.

Interested in working in the Ward 1 DC Council office? While right now, we're focused on the general election, we're also gauging interest from people dedicated to fighting for a better Ward 1 in the Council office if we win. Share your interest by November 8 here: airtable.com/app5UvQUZgEw...

Does my Speak-n-Spell feel pain when I type O-U-C-H? The jury is out. Philosophers and neuroscientists say that's fucking stupid, but I called a guy from the Center for Pretending that Household Electronics Are Sentient and he said there's no way to know for sure.

You see, Claude, this is all we need. Ssh port forwarding, rsync, 3 cups of coffee, and a little bit of conversation. You and me and $200/month.

I am aware of increased federal law enforcement presence this morning at Bruce-Monroe Elementary School and in Park View. The National Guard has no business being here in the District of Columbia. The FBI has no business patrolling our schools. brianneknadeau.com/statement-on...

I sometimes click on The Athletic stories on the NYT. But they are invariably poorly written and edited. With today's "Did Archi Manning really say that?" article, "what" is never quoted or defined. Basic rules of journalism go out the window with The Athletic.

bad news everyone. i wrote a program in qbasic that was just 10 KILL ALL HUMANS 20 GOTO 10 which means we are all going to die. does anyone want to give me 7 billion dollars

Gonna love the 2027 cases of agents breaking sandboxes and then going on to crawl health insurance sites that inadvertently have pixel trackers installed on them, those'll be fun.

Haven’t had a storm like that in DC since the derecho of ‘12. Fortunately DC went on a power-line-burying spree after the derecho. This is two doors down from me, miraculously missed the house, poor old elm.

This is such a no-brainer. I can't believe DC would let itself get astroturfed by Big Corn Syrup.

We have the chance to change recycling in the US & leave our streets, parks & rivers cleaner for our kids. If Council passes the Bottle Bill, which I introduced w/ 10 colleagues, this fall, we'll be the 1st US jurisdiction to do so in decades. Let's lead the way. just-zero.org/our-stories/...

Trump: “The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship! Thank you very much to all of those who participated. I won with a 70, & am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I’m given very little time to practice, bc I’m focused on many other things. It’s called TALENT, and I have it”

It had been a couple weeks since I’d updated Claude Code in the old workstation I’ve configured to be my agentic VM host. I did that last night. This morning CC is crashing my system due to the Bun-in-Rust rewrite. It’s an old (but capable) Westmere system and CC, via Bun, is trying to execute AVX.

Shouting "least privilege still matters" until I'm hoarse over here. Also, if you must give your agent a shell tool, for the love of god sandbox it.

It’s crazy to me how anti-business Bowser has been.

From yesterday’s goodbye party for the Purple Patch & Nido streatery. 💜 Streateries foster community, increase accessibility, and bring in revenue for small businesses. I hope DDOT & DOB reconsider, but either way I’m ready to work with our new mayor to bring streateries back.

I ran into Fable downgrades over the weekend, applied to Anthropic's Cyber Verification Program on Monday morning, approved Monday afternoon, and have still gotten downgraded several times since for wonky DFIR research projects described to them. It's pretty great at assembly though.

Fable, on being provided an implementation from Opus: “Nice design — the SoA decoupling is the right idea. Reading the hot loops with an eye on port pressure, here’s where I’d go next”, and then promptly got a 75% win. But it also stubbornly refuses to work on another algorithm problem I have.
