Looking forward to reading this. 70% of the (mine) ballot is uncontested in Massachusetts this election cycle. Yet many Democratic politicians oppose removing party labels from primaries and general elections.

I've got a column in the @sfstandard.com today about how a lack of electoral competition leads to substandard outcomes here in California, plus what we can do to fix it.

Remove Freddy Haynes -- a Black Baptist minister -- and this really is about White democrats centering religion. Black politicians are and have been deeply embedded in Black churches for generations, without needing to make them a centerpiece.

It's rare for Democrats to make religion a centerpiece of their campaigns. But this midterm election cycle, a number of candidates for Congress are doing just that. n.pr/3VS9pPE

Democrats must get more vocal in condemning this prosecution, which is both politically motivated and vindictive on the part of the Trump administration.

My heart goes out to this young lady. Every Black woman knows what this feels like-to be surrounded by those who wish you harm+ no guarantee of societal defense- your spine stiffens as you become hyperalert- a horrid feeling, esp if you're physically smaller. Honestly, partly why I started muay thai

Would love to also see this by race, and the intersectional effects for women by race. So many Black women in the tech and artificial intelligence (AI) space that do not get their due.

Also, "one nation under God" was coined in the post-WWII era and only added to the pledge in 1954. It's younger than Donald Trump. Somebody wrote a book about this.

In the well-over 100,000 documents written by founders included in the Founders Online database from the National Archives, no one uses the phrase "God's noble experiment." No one.

And this wasn't unanimous?

SUPREME COURT: BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP Children born in the United States to parents unlawfully or temporarily present are “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States and are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause. 6-3

Important, important context!

ElieNYC@elienyc.bsky.social

Ugh. Supreme Court rules in Slaughter, 6-3 that Trump can fire people from the FTC. But in Cook, Court rules 5-4 that Trump cannot fire everybody from the Fed. Roberts writes both majority opinions There's no real difference between the FTC and the FED other than Roberts likes the Fed.

🧵 4 years ago, SCOTUS overturned nearly 50 years of established constitutional protection for bodily autonomy. The Dobbs decision opened the floodgates to draconian abortion bans across the country. Today, abortion is banned in 13 states and severely restricted in many more. (1/3)

Our recent research -- Even among the 92%, It’s Complicated: Examining Black Women Voters’ Emotions and Evaluations of Kamala Harris in the 2024 Election---- examines Black women’s perspectives during the 2024 election cycle through focus groups with politically engaged Black women.

While 92% supported the Democratic ticket, Nadia Brown, Camille Burge, and I find that Black women are a politically heterogeneous community with a diverse range of emotions, policy priorities, ideological perspectives, and strategies for political engagement.

In the aftermath of the 2024 election, Black men were blamed for Democratic losses, yet the data show a different picture. While Black vote for the Democratic party at lower rates than Black women, their support remains higher than that of Latino, Asian, and white voters across gender.

In the paper, we analyze survey data and content analysis of podcasts that are a part of the Manosphere. Our measure of Black patriarchy captures hostile sexism, bootstrap ideology, and resistance to intersectional solidarity.
