I find it mind-numbingly boring to talk about large language models and the air-conditioned warehouses full of computers that big tech companies use to develop them, but even I thought this was a well-grounded conversation on pragmatic ways that state policymakers can deal with data centers.

On Thursday, I'm recording a podcast with Saleem Chapman of @climatecabinet.org about their work on data centers, specifically, what states ought to be doing about data centers -- what policies they ought to have in place, and why. Got questions?

Arizona's AI data center boom is cauasing rates to go up. APS (and TEP has the same number) wants regulators to approve a 45% rate hike for data centers and ~14.5% for households with a ruling expected right around Election Day, locking in rates for years. 🧵

Congratulations to Climate Cabinet-endorsed candidate, Anita Gonzales, for winning her primary! With this win, Anita has shown that voters will back clean energy champions who fight to lower families’ bills.

The NM Land Commissioner election is often overlooked, but the outcome is critical. This office oversees millions of acres of public lands, mineral rights, and energy leasing—determining whether New Mexico locks into fossil fuel dependence or transitions toward a clean energy future.

@spears.bsky.social in @thehill.com: Don't sleep on the power of state & local officials to get constituents off the fossil fuel roller coaster. They largely determine our electricity mix, public transit access & housing options. Smart policy in these 3 areas shields ppl from insecure fossil fuels.

This is great news from Virginia! State-supported intercity bus routes are a critical component of any comprehensive state-wide transit system. This is particularly critical for keeping small towns and rural communities connected to each other and neighboring urban communities.

Trifecta control in Wisconsin is absolutely on the table in November.

G Elliott Morris@gelliottmorris.com

The Democratic candidate in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race beat the polls by 13 percentage points. This follows an underestimation of Democrats in the 2025 statewide elections in Virginia and New Jersey. It's reasonable to question whether RV generic ballot polls are also underestimating Democrats
