Important insights from our recent FFPO production report, End of the Pipeline, from report author @neilgrant.bsky.social ⬇️

NEW(ish*) report out from @climateanalytics.org last week ❓What if we win the climate fight, and get fossil fuel demand falling fast? ❓What does this mean for producers, esp. the most exposed e.g. Algeria/Nigeria/Angola? BUCKLE UP 🧵 *It was a long week last week 🤧, so my thread is delayed

REPORT: Australia can meet its commitments under the Paris Agreement to bring warming to 1.5˚C - by phasing out fossil fuels. We find it's possible and we set out the policies needed to get there. @billhare.bsky.social sums it up in The Conversation .../ #auspol theconversation.com/australia-mu...

A fossil free Australia would also need the government address the serious flaws in the Safeguard Mechanism,by converting it into a proper compliance-based emissions trading system with a declining baseline and constraining the use of offsets. Full report here climateanalytics.org/publications...

climateanalytics.orgA fossil fuel free AustraliaWe have modelled a fossil fuel phase-out for Australia that looks at the country's energy system identifying what the government needs to do to get emissions onto a net zero, 1.5˚C aligned pathway.

We covered all major energy sectors. The government's current policies leave a large gap in climate action. It must also phase out fossil fuel exports. As the govt leading #COP31 negotiations, Australia must meet the commitment it has already made to a transition away from fossil fuels.

The EU has gleefully ripped up the progress made over the last decade to reduce climate pollution and to restore nature – so the climate crisis accelerates and people are less protected from the impacts The centre-right and far-right wanted a bonfire of green rules, well it's certainly burning now

theguardian.comEurope heatwave shows need to reject climate denial ‘lies’, says EU green chiefTeresa Ribera blames ‘ideologically driven’ falsehoods, driven by those with vested interests in fossil fuels, for attacks on green policy

As a massive heatwave sweeps Europe, a new study led by @jessieruthgs.bsky.social shows climate change will widen Europe’s income gap further. In a 1.5°C world, heatwaves and drought could reduce average household incomes by 7.5% across Europe and by 27% in a 2.7°C world. tinyurl.com/bdfhtdch

climateanalytics.orgAs heatwave sweeps Europe, study warns of growing toll on household…A new Climate Analytics study shows that combined heat-and-drought events already reduce average household incomes by almost 3% across Europe, with much larger losses in the hardest-hit regions.

Our analysis also shows illustrative fossil phase-out scenarios for 15 major countries. 1️⃣ High-income countries lead the way, phasing out fossils by 2050 2️⃣ Middle income countries follow behind but with slower action out to 2030 3️⃣ Low-income countries peak fossil demand in 2030 & phase out by 2070

This provides critical evidence for the Santa Marta process on transitioning away from fossil fuels. Climate Analytics is ready to support any country in developing fossil phase-out roadmaps. Look out for more work from us on fossil fuel production coming in the Autumn!

Three major energy shocks in a decade, yet many governments still treat #FossilFuel volatility as a temporary disruption. Dependence on fossil fuels leaves countries exposed to geopolitical turmoil and price shocks. As Bill Hare notes, the #ClimateCrisis remains the larger existential risk.

1/ The US–Israel war on Iran has once again put #EnergySecurity at the centre of geopolitical tensions. It is the third major shock to the global energy system this decade, exposing the vulnerabilities of fossil fuel-dependent economies. But this crisis is different.

1/ The 1.5°C national pathway explorer generates the evidence stakeholders need to act. In last week’s webinar, we heard from users of the tool about how it can support advocacy, decision-making, and the implementation of strategies to achieve a 1.5°C-compatible pathway.

Saudi Arabia’s latest climate pledge is once again undermined by a lack of transparency. It provides no 2035 emissions reduction target, and the 2040 target is tied to an unspecified baseline projection, making ambition and progress impossible to measure.

Nigeria submitted its 2035 NDC in September 2025: it is 1.5°C aligned, representing a high level of ambition. However, Nigeria's current policies are projected to significantly increase emissions, which conflicts with the new targets.

Every year now, the pre-monsoon heat (the hottest time of year in South Asia with temperatures well over 40°C) starts earlier & lasts longer - due to human-induced climate change - exposing 1billion people to deadly heat. @wwattribution.bsky.social www.worldweatherattribution.org/climate-chan...

2/Our new analysis shows: • An EU 0.2% methane intensity standard on imported fossil fuels could cut >3 Mt CH₄ annually • If 6 other major importers follow, global methane emissions could fall by >10 Mt CH₄ • That would close 34% of the gap to a 1.5°C-consistent pathway

Colombia’s 2035 #ClimateTarget sends mixed signals on ambition. While the country has reaffirmed its 2030 commitment & introduced a slightly lower emissions target for 2035, the bigger picture is concerning: progress is not keeping pace with what’s needed for a 1.5°C pathway.
