Another thing from the show: a group handed out thousands of paper cut-out "faerie fire" tokens, made from different colour paper, for people to put over camera torches to create a multicoloured effect at the beginning of the show. Looked really cool. Recording: www.instagram.com/p/DfAIU_ZCubx/

I watched my first live Critical Role show last night at the 02 Arena. Wild that a show like this can occupy a space as big as that. Testament to the following CR has established. Love that I live in a world where this happens. Shout-out to the guy sat behind us who had no idea what D&D was...

And proceeded to complain loudly about being bored whenever he could. Like, how were you there? Did you really pay all that money for something you had no idea about? Equally wild.

It was nice to do a bit of feature work again! This project is brilliant. Any retro lovers: this is for you

Hello! Small bit of good games media news I wanted to share: Eurogamer editorial (non-guides) is up for consecutive months year on year, and on average since May, despite being down more than 40% full time staff (plus video, commerce, DF etc) for that period. I am very, very, very proud of the team.

I play one little game of D&D and now my head is like a theory-crafting, story-swirling maelstrom. All I can think about is characters I'd like to create

"The mood is certainly 'let's not celebrate the game until we're three months post launch, just in case', which is very unusual." Gears dev Coalition unsurprisingly fearful of layoffs as E-Day launches. Xbox remaining layoffs "hanging over our heads". Great report by @connormakar.bsky.social

It was originally much harder to beat the game, apparently. But all the talk and concern around the time system: it undermined the studio's confidence

Everyone's talking about the cuts to the studios and dev, which, yes, absolutely. But the behind the scenes cuts to areas like business planning, forecasting, demand planning... these aren't cuts a serious business makes, imo.

Nighthawks is doing... well! It came close to beating our "First Day Of Launch" record. This is a remarkable achievement when you consider that this is on TOP of the thousands of Kickstarter backers who already own the game. So I think we can safely put this in the "success" column for now! Phew!

A celebration of human art and physical things. Very timely.

The numbers confuse me. 1600 Xbox jobs were cut in July with 1600 more to follow over the course of a year. 268 further job cuts have been made. So we're up to 1868? But Matt Booty says MS is "roughly three-quarters of the way through previously announced restructuring". Does that mean...

The divested studios such as Ninja Theory, Double Fine, Compulsion, and Undead Labs, have all contributed invisibly to the 3200 total? Booty does say say the "three-quarters" remark is "inclusive of the studio divestitures". It's a bit confusing.

Transcription software interprets "Konrad" as "Comrade", which I suppose is quite close. I wonder what sort of profile it's building about me as a result

More inspired AI spam. "Your description of Ed Sheeran turning a Pokémon Championship into a surreal mash‑up of onion‑scented crowds and acoustic bravado perfectly captures the uncanny joy of that night. It reminded me of scrolling through Camden Property Listings...

"Where you never know which hidden gem will pop up next. Beyond the novelty, his generosity shipping extra Lego to local schools and championing his neighborhood chippie adds authenticity that eclipses typical pop‑culture flash. In short, the show feels more like a community jam than a circus act."

It's interesting seeing the continued pushback to the limited time idea the game has. I understand the concern but it really isn't as stressful or limiting as it seems. But some people don't even want to entertain the idea at all - it's like a hard block. It's a cool feature!
