The One Piece live action has been an above average adaptation, but the Reverse Mountain episode was the first time I really felt that distinct Oda magic. Having Luffy sing to Laboon was a stroke of genius, and a genuine improvement over the source material.

The anime industry is way less interesting without Gonzo. Say what you will about a lot of their later projects (ewww NFTs), but they were a hit making factory in the early '00s and many of those titles were totally original! Like Gainax, they were just ultimately undone by mismanagement.

A lot of modern manga adaptations fall flat BECAUSE they're cutting out all the filler. Sometimes it feels like watching an abridged version, and we are ending up with episodes without proper beginnings or endings because they're simply trying to cram in as many chapters into 22 minutes as possible.
