"arabs have contributed nothing to the arts and sciences" is such a funny fucking thing for a bog ape wearing a little suit to say

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

I obviously keep up with Toronto and Canadian politics closer than the average American. But when Matt posted this earlier, I said to myself, "there's no fucking way that this man's government name is Bradford Bradford." Y'all.

ℳatt@matttomic.bsky.social

please do not vote for Bradford Bradford, an empty vessel who has never had an original thought or conviction in his life that wasn't A/B-tested by a team of consultants. a useless dork who uses AI apps to get facebook trolls to fight battles for him. a truly mediocre man

The Democratic Party stance on this should be simple: you wanna gamble? Awesome! Do it at the casino. Or at the grocery store/gas station where you can buy lottery tickets. But you can't do it on your phone anymore. Sorry. No more gambling on the addiction machine in your pocket.

David Brauer@dbrauer.net

Lula won in part by banning online gambling

Hell, they could even go one step further and nationalize the Minnesota model: make it so that only indigenous tribes and their governments are allowed to own casinos. No more Adelsons, Wynns, or Trumps.

My union brother Sam Forstag is running for a House seat in western Montana, a state that hasn't elected a Democrat to the U.S. House since 1994. If he can reject transphobia as a campaign tactic, then there's no excuse for anyone else. Vote for Sam Forstag. Reject anyone who lacks his convictions.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

"people are concerned about other people in other places, which is terrible...in this essay i will (say a bunch of other wrong-ass shit)"

Dan Mauler 🎃@meelar.bsky.social

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

The AP Top 25 from this week shows the effect of NIL. I fucking love it. Indiana at #4. Kentucky at #9. Wake Forest at #14. Like. This is what college football is supposed to be.

Yeah. What the fuck is going on, Cinnamon Toast Crunch? Y'all aight? What branding consultant told y'all "you know what sells? ted bundy, but jeffrey dahmer, but cinnamon"

KFC Rotisserie Gold (1993-1995): Looking to provide an alternative to their fried chicken, KFC rolled out a line of roast chicken, marketed as being "deep marinated", slow roasted in rotisserie ovens, and made with their signature blend of herbs and spices. They were sold whole, halves, or quarters

Damn. Another one that should lose. Bigots don't deserve to serve, regardless of the color on their team jersey.

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

There's a lot of shit when it comes to this movie that I'll be chewing on for a while. This is not one of those things. In fact, it was one of the first moments that made me wonder if Nathan Fielder had been taken in by the subject, because this non-story took up entirely too much space.

Sam Adams@samadams.bsky.social

Okay, this is starting to drive me nuts the fact that there is no recording of Elizabeth Holmes saying the challenged quote does not mean there is “no proof” [article/author redacted because this is just the example that pushed me over the edge]

Imagine saying this about someone born, raised, educated, and raising a family in Michigan simply because he's Muslim. Nothing has made me forget harder than a generation of people using a national tragedy for their own racist ends.

This is basically where I'm at with the news. Like, if Amazon released a statement saying that they'd voluntarily recognized a labor union in their warehouses, we'd all be skeptical of that for entirely justifiable reasons. So it goes here.

C.M. Lewis 🦬⚔️@thehousered.bsky.social

simple question worth asking: why would the Dallas Cowboys, of all teams, voluntarily recognize a worker union, and to what extent will an independent union be able to bargain against one of the wealthiest sports franchises in the world? seems worth digging into that one.

I would love for him to come to the Uptown VFW and say this to my face.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

I shouldn't laugh. I really shouldn't. But he said this man's whole government name like he's about to take his belt off and whoop the Speaker of the House's ass.

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social

“Therefore, because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress. Please inform the Speaker of the House of Representatives, James Michael Johnson, that the Dumocrat Party has just conceded her seat.”

If you ask a Not Iowan what Iowa is known for, you're going to get one of three answers: corn, America's second best state fair, and the Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, also known as RAGBRAI. It's, like, thousands of people biking across the state for seven days. Wild ass comment.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

If you want information about federal employees from the people who actually represent them, you should look for the accounts of NTEU, NFFE-IAM, AFGE, and NAGE amongst others. They're far more likely to have accurate information on voting and the federal workforce than some random lib QAnon weirdo.

AltWatcher@altwatcher.bsky.social

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

it was evident that the owners of the crew were going down this path when they ditched the greatest sports logo ever

The Browns, Bengals, Guardians, Reds, Blue Jackets, Cavaliers, Crew, and FC Cincinnati. The owners of every single pro sports team in Ohio have all donated to Vivek Ramaswamy. And not a single one has spoken up about his recent ad. www.foiaball.com/p/ohio-sport...

Like. This is such a bizarre takeaway from the information presented that it truly beggars belief. The thing that's more likely to discourage donations is probably the fact that giving one time will result in getting 1000 texts begging me "pretty pretty please" to donate to people I can't vote for.

...and this is the first quote-skeet of the OP. Almost like discrediting research that makes your professed "side" look bad was the whole purpose of the post to begin with. Ironically, this is the exact kind of thing that a Republican would do. Imagine that.

Major media outlets will lament the United States’s “monoculture” (as it relates to books, for example) and then excitedly bestow the title “most important bookseller in the country” to the CEO of a publicly traded corporation. Doesn’t make either untrue, but it does bear at least a third article.

How did that whole thing end up, by the way? That experiment where three political scientists tested whether people make partisan choices in nonpartisan elections when given partisan information about the candidates? Well. Montana officials said they broke the law. Their universities disagreed.

So nothing really happened. Maybe that doesn't matter to the OP. But it seems at least a bit unethical to not point out that conclusion. Anyways, how you could look at consultants scamming seniors and decide that the problem is actually the people trying to stop it is beyond my scope of logic.

He knows that Ramaswamy is going to lose. The cruelty is the point. The entire whole-ass point.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"
