Inspired by (ripping off) @maxleonard.bsky.social here’s a thread of books I’m reading this year (it will probably total what Max reads in a week). First up: Why history matters to graphic design by Clémence Imbert. A reexamination of why the history of the field is still relevant to students.
Natural Connection, Jocelyn Longdon. Inspired by @uxmichael.co’s recommendation, I really enjoyed this book. Particularly the focus on finding joy in protest and the need for radical forms of sustainable care
Thoughts and prayers for my inbox on today, this @bandcamp.com Friday of Fridays. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🌊📥

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
On a more positive note, I finally got round to setting up Navidrome to serve my music collection and it is FUCKING MAGNIFICENT. I used to use CloudBeats app hooked up to my iTunes library on my Dropbox, which was ok but had some big issues that Navidrome has cleared up beautifully. Wooooooooooooop!
Along with Studio Mothership I spent a year working on an amazing public art project in Bristol. The resulting outcome, tonnes of bespoke fabricated corten steel and custom ceramic tiles, was installed recently. The Bristol Post ran a story on the project. I hope they don't do what they always do...

Really ripping off @maxleonard.bsky.social now! The Long Deep by Des Hannigan. Lovely little book, beautifully written about lots of little hard to find spots in Cornwall, some I knew and a lot I didn’t. Loved that a lot of the stories are from the early 80s when I was growing up there

I'm starting a radio show in a few weeks, catch it 12-2pm on the 3rd Monday of each month on www.doyou.world Hoping to drag in some artists I know who work with sound or music to talk about their work. Expect disco, boogie, Balearic and house sounds and a distinct lack of professionalism.

Buy font, do good. This is a great little initiative with a very good cause and you end up with a sexy font from an amazing designer www.instagram.com/p/DW3RHycgFb...

Design Harder by @erikinternet.bsky.social A rallying call for more criticality and ethics in graphic design. A great read.

I've been lucky enough to give @marktomlinson.dev some advice while they've built this and we're already using it at @set.studio. I'm so glad it's now available sugarcube.sh Complete CSS will be replacing Tailwind for utility classes ASAP too

Searches if your local NHS Trust is using Palantir and emails them on your behalf, please take a minute to do this because we must fight this evil company getting a hold >> notopalantir.goodlawproject.org/email-to-tar...

I’m slowly moving into second gear with @raycast.com - setting up some nice shortcuts/scripts. Getting rid of the muscle memory of doing stuff the hard way is not easy to shift though
Oh cool, after an update my Adobe apps now hijack my screen and won’t let me switch to anything else. I can’t even uninstall them. Enshittification right before my eyes. @adobe.com why do you suck so badly?
positioningsymposium.com A site I worked on last year but forgot to share. A lightweight custom Wordpress theme for Publics, a leading cultural institution in Helsinki. Nothing fancy going on so it’s nice and snappy. I worked with Valerio Di Lucente from (erstwhile) Studio Julia which was an honour
I just setup google sheets as a CMS for a really simple client @astro.build site that just has a few text fields. It was so easy. Now to try the same thing but using something not owned by the devil...
I’m just starting a new book project about research into aperiodic order in art and mathematics. It’s a bit of a mind boggler at this stage, hoping I can get my January brain around it quickly en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperiod...
