From 34,000 feet over Greenland, congratulations to Francis Halzen and IceCube. A fine choice by the Nobel Committee! I look forward to many more superb results and—with luck—some off-scale surprises. And kudos to the National Science Foundation as we have known it for enlightened support!

And many more!

Happy birthday CERN! 🎉 #OnThisDay 72 years ago, CERN officially came into being, bringing together 12 founding Member States with a shared vision for science and international collaboration. Discover the story behind 72 years of science: home.cern/about/who-we...

On an overnight stop in Walmer/Deal (Kent, UK) this reminder of the DESY collider that gave evidence for the gluon’s reality.

I am sad to report that a formidable colleague, Ken Lane (Boston U), has died. Ken made many notable contributions, among them his work on the Cornell charmonium model, dynamical symmetry breaking in the form of extended technicolor, and supercollider physics. He shared the 2011 Sakurai Prize. RIP!

You can listen to the audiobook Grace in All Simplicity: Beauty, Truth, and Wonders on the Path to the Higgs boson and New Laws of Nature (by Bob Cahn and me) on Audible, Spotify, etc., or for free with a library card on Hoopla.

An excellent plan to create a visitor centre honoring JCM. Will support in memory of J. D. Jackson, Master of Classical Electrodynamics.

Help! Parton Community Council has 60 days to raise £70k to buy Parton Kirk (resting place of James Clerk Maxwell). They plan to turn it into a visitor centre celebrating our great hero! The other buyers could turn it into long-term storage 😬 Even £5 would help 🙏🧪⚛️ www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding...

Only a matter of time before Sean returns to Villanova to put Philly on the map!

Pope Leo hasn't been returning my calls, so I'm switching to LeBron as my next big podcast target. #MindscapePodcast

Today, riders of the Tour de France passed near Boulevard de l'Hypéron in Bagnères-de-Bigorre and close to the Observatoire du Pic du Midi (above le col du Tourmalet).

Congratulations to ATLAS for this fiendishly difficult observation!

Congrats to @atlasexperiment.bsky.social for the observation the Bc*⁺ meson. It's hadron number 82 at the LHC. It's been 14 year since ATLAS reported the first new particle observed at the LHC, the χb(3P). All hadrons are at www.koppenburg.ch/particles.html Preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2605.16228

Willis Lamb Nobel Lecture, 1955: "I have heard it said that «the finder of a new elementary particle used to be rewarded by a Nobel Prize, but such a discovery now ought to be punished by a $10,000 [now $121,400] fine»". But I celebrate with LHCb. More doubly heavy baryons! Long live spectroscopy!

Hadron number 80 has dropped!
