Stayed up too late last night watching baseball. Wish my team were still in it but glad to not be living with those levels of stress past my bedtime.

Fun evening at the high school seeing the theater kids do an adaptation of Dracula. I think they were having fun doing something a little creepy. Audience was having fun, too.

We literally have the largest bike-touring event in the world which has been an annual summer state tradition for FIFTY YEARS. There's a giant exhibit in the state historical museum about it. This is comical.

Joe Mitchell: "Thank God you're building the ballroom. Thank God you're getting rid of those awful bike lanes. We don't ride bicycles in Iowa."

Can anybody explain why I have had "The Old Castle" from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition stuck in my head all day please thanks

Update on the card catalog: looked at it, decided not to buy this one. Somebody had painted it navy blue, and the paint job was actually pretty good but it now gives “country kitsch project” vibes rather than “old tired wonderful library” vibes. I’ll keep looking.

There’s a little girl behind me at McDonalds excited to go on her class field trip to see the “recycling centaur” and I’m not sure whether she just pronounces it funny or is in for a big disappointment soon

On my bucket list of furniture for my home office (that’s a weird thing to say, I guess) is an old library card catalog, something like this. I’m a library lover and nostalgic, I guess. They’re… remarkably hard to come by and usually pricey. Gonna go look at one tonight that might work, though.

Chris Hemsworth's job is to look like Chris Hemsworth. Someone pays him to go to the gym. I get paid to find security vulnerabilities, not to find my abs.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

So far today I’ve watched a close end to Ohio State - Indiana, a nailbiter in OT for Florida State - Miami, seen Auburn upset #1 Georgia, and BYU survive a last-ditch attempt by Notre Dame. My team, Nebraska, didn’t start until 20 minutes ago. No way I’m gonna stay awake for this one.

Ran the prices and for this week’s business trip it would’ve been about the same price for me to Uber to/from the airport as to drive my own car and park it there all week and hike in from the long-term lot. I’ve been driving/parking at CID for 25 years. Would be a hard habit to break.

As a Cubs fan I can’t really bring myself to cheer for either the Brewers or the Dodgers here in the NLCS. Guess I’ll be pulling for the AL in the Series. Apologies to my one Brewers-loving friend.

Testing my limited social media reach… I'm staying in DC this week near Georgetown, just north of GWU. Anybody got recommendations for good restaurants? Normally I stay on the other side of the district.

I’ve got a mini PC running Debian for my home media and utility server. VNC has always been flaky as a remote desktop option. Got a GL.inet Comet KVM yesterday. It’s super-slick. Tailscale native. Connect USB and HDMI to the PC and can connect to the PC from anywhere I have a browser. Neat.

The Iowa Hawkeyes playing in Seattle tonight against U of W, didn’t start until 8pm central. Fortunately for me, the Hawks are up 27-0 before halftime, think I can safely go to bed. Or switch over to the Iowa State game if ESPN ever lets them start it.

Don’t know that I intended to run a half marathon when I started out today. Wasn’t really properly fueled, kinda dragged at the end. Still, a nice accomplishment for a Friday afternoon.

Precisely.

They’re live-streaming the execution of the person they think they can get away with doing that to first. It’s a test. If they can do that, they’ll expand the margins of permission.

We’re at the point in our relocation plan where I want to keep an eye on real estate listings to get a feel for the housing market, the homes available, the neighborhoods, and so on, but where I am not actually in position to buy a new home for several more months. It’s kind of frustrating.

When it's already 1:30, all you've had so far today is a pot of coffee, and you just gotta scrounge what's in the fridge before the next meeting starts…
