Java was meant to be "write once, run anywhere". How does that hold up for retro programming? I tried it on a Windows XP Pentium III, a Commodore 64 and an Amiga 500. No println, but Duke does get Copper bars. #c64 #amiga #java

I *think* the first movie I saw at the cinema was maybe Disney’s cat from outer space 🪐 🐈
First film you saw at the cinema. The real first one, not the pretend one you tell people! Mine: The Empire Strikes Back, 1980, Wigan. We were near the front and I can still remember how massive the AT-ATs looked, looming over us out of the snow :) Film, year, where, and whatever stuck with you.
We don’t even power on our Xbox of the latest generation. My daughter uses a Switch 1. Fact is, the games I enjoy don’t even need a GPU or more than 8GB of RAM. Heck, there’s only a handful of games newer than 25 years ago that I can *name*.
Sorry still thinking of $1,200-$1,800 dollar console just conceptually. Those are Real Computer numbers. You can just get a real computer for that kinda cash. The entire premise of the console is “this is a baby computer you don’t control but it’s standardized and affordable” but they can’t do that.

This shit just writes itself at this point. Just the name "Epic AI MegaJam" is a joke that best describes what is going on with these companies.

Not a dunk, but I do think I disagree with this diagnosis, at least on recomps. AI tools really did wreck the status quo here in a way that's hard to fix and that did real damage. A thread of me noodling about this. This thread got *way* out of hand, sorry in advance
it's cool that we're voluntarily destroying vital community resources (groups & associations for fan decompilations and translations, game archival & preservation) out of spite because oh god oh no oh god someone might use AI somewhere in the process

It's been a week and the Rubber Keyed Wonder book's doing great! Stretch goals are out - we've hit 1 for a feature on the Spectrum clones, and there's 2 more to hit; a feature on cool accessories, and another on some very bad games. Don't miss out! Back it here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/48k...
