Oracle provides an APEXlang compiler, but not a public parser for building custom tooling. Grisselbav’s APEXlang Parser fills that gap. In this blog post, I show how it enables static code analysis by detecting a security vulnerability in an Oracle APEX app. www.salvis.com/blog/2026/06...

I've been busy in the last months! Announcing a brand new "Practical Exadata Performance" training course! I'm not aware of any other training *like this* offered in the world. 😎 Also, a *free* seminar! Exadata is an awesome platform, if used right! learn.tanelpoder.com

Reasons why SELECT * is bad for SQL performance: An old blog (with Oracle-specific examples) with a whole range of reasons why. It's not only about network traffic and SQL plan execution, but client side processing and memory usage as well. tanelpoder.com/posts/reason...

Am I the only one who cannot activate SQL History at the session level in #OracleDatabase 26ai? The "ALTER SESSION SET SQL_HISTORY_ENABLED = TRUE" command runs successfully but has no effect...

Also note that when the feature is enabled PDB-wide, I can disable and re-enable it using the ALTER SESSION statement. It seems that the implementation is rather peculiar... Also, the way buffers disappear and reappear when you disable and re-enable it is quite strange.

After a decade of planning, editing, delays due to my own busyness, further editing and waiting for 23c, the release of 26ai and my pre-retirement finally unblocked the situation. I have agreed with Apress to publish the third edition of Troubleshooting Oracle Performance in 2026. #TOP3

From what I see, #OracleDatabase between version 23.3 and version 23.26.1 ships with a buggy TRCSESS script. To fix it, just correctly set the variable JDK_HOME at line 54. I seems that the problem was introduced by the change "adadhich 04/12/23 - use s_jdkLocation".

This is an interesting case of censorship. The two images show the front covers of the same book. One was printed in Switzerland and the other by Amazon. I suppose Donald's ego is just too fragile.

The journey that began with Trivadis in 1999 ends today. It has been a great and memorable one. I had the chance to make so many positive experiences and meet great people inside and outside the company. But it's time for me to move on and enable pre-retirement mode.

I’m a simple man. While Oracle people are ecstatic about ASSERTION in the just released version 23.26.1 of the Oracle Database, I’m happy to see something as simple as FILTER :) 🧵

In 2025 the energy balance of our PV system (10 kWp) improved thanks to better weather (+780 kW) and some adjustments of pool and EV consumption. The self-consumption of 56% is good and could be taken to 60% with further optimisation. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to acquire a V2H wallbox... WIP.

According to NEWS20, KB850150 is even one of the top accessed notes. Mhm... I guess if nobody checked the top notes, I can't imagine what happened with the least frequently accessed. That migration was carried out in an amateurish manner and resulted in a total failure.

I'm happy with the performance of my new ThinkPad P14s. Only thing that could be better is a lower fan noise by heavy load. But, let's face it, running 5 VMs with 30+ active Oracle Database instances isn't the most common load for a notebook ;-)

I'm looking for a working example of the LLS Clause in #OracleDatabase, but I'm unable to find it. Also the one provided in the doc is wrong (doesn't work). When no offset/length is specified, it works as expected. With offset/length, I always get a KUP-04001 error referencing an invalid file name.

The issue was due to the COLUMN TRANSFORM clause. According to my tests: - COLUMN TRANSFORM is needed when NO offset/length is specified. - COLUMN TRANSFORM is NOT needed when offset/length is specified. Even though I don't understand why such an inconsistency exists, now I know how to implement it.
