Things I'm likely to post about: * Weird things I found while out and about, like critters or stuff I find in the woods * My cats, though my house is incredibly un-photogenic. * Stuff about weird indie video games I'm passionate about * Funky music sometimes * Thoughts on some movies

You Can See Everything gave me a lot to think about on the nature of deception and perception but mostly I learned that Elizabeth Holmes has upsettingly large anime eyes that never blink. A movie with that much face closeups is a real horror movie for the socially uncomfortable.

Damn... First of all, all the best wishes to his family and I'm sorry for their terrible loss. Secondly, this happening so soon after the Looney Tunes rocketed back into public thought with CvA deepens the tragedy all the more, and almost feels like an omen with the whole merger thing. Terrible.

Unbelievable loss. An amazing talent, and just a really, really good person. www.instagram.com/p/De8RFy4pyov/

Day 24: Shift Woman A mysterious bot who can manipulate gravity in a rush with the nimbleness of a cat. Some call her a thief but she does commit heists to better help her community out of the slums. Her origins are unknown, some say even to herself. #megaman

Genuinely want to know what the logic is here. Who thought this was the thing to do? Like obviously it's evil, but what's even the strategic thinking? Republicans think you're demons who want to trans the genders of all the kids anyway. You won't convince them otherwise.

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Contrary to a lot of people I see, I don't believe most people enjoy just saying "Heh *mustache twirl* look how nefarious I am", I'm more likely to believe there's a dipshit calculation being made toward a goal. Stupidity is more often the cause than simply malice.

Not to say there isn't malice, but again, I just have to believe there was some play being made here, but honestly fucking what? You're not pulling R voters, I voters aren't paying enough attention to give a shit, and D voters will fucking hate you. So why? Fucking dumbasses, evil dumbasses.

I can't understand this as anything but an effort to intentionally lose at this point. Who stakes a position against a major issue like this, one which is supported by a massive chunk of the main base, a fucking WEEK out? People have already voted early! What's the point of this? To just be mean?

Like it turns out the torment nexus is just unemployment with no health care. Cool. Guess you were hoping for some Hellraiser shit, maybe something more cyberpunk or at least Terminator but nah it's just Wall-E but the robots suck.

I'm blocking @mary1kathy.bsky.social and adding the account to my blocklists. Life is too short and the times are too serious to fuck around with disinformation and "A.i." bullshit. For accountability, here's the screenshot of the video they posted.

So at my old job I worked in a pretty small company, so our field team was always just me and another person. We never kept anyone for long, so I was constantly starting over with new people. I've got a relevant point, honest, please bear with me for a bit.

Likewise, I can't in good conscience tell people to vote for candidates that will actively work against their safety and well being. Nobody should be forced to make that choice. If you have a candidate you think will fight for you, please please PLEASE vote for them.

But if your choices are "Actual nazi who wants you dead" and "wet noodle who thinks you're subhuman", nobody should hold a fucking gun to your head over it. And for anyone who does make the decision to cast that vote, it's your moral obligation to convince these candidates to change on these issues.

Ultimately he ended up leaving when another hire we'd thought was a former drug addict turned out to be a current addict (a hell of a story in its own right but I'm already worried I'm being too specific), but the point is I'd talked him out of leaving a few times because we needed the help.

THIS IS THE RELEVANT POINT!!!! Since then I've been determined not to stand in the way of people who want to leave. I'll still try to advocate for them to the boss, but I can't bear to convince someone to stay in a bad situation if I can't guarantee it'll get better.

There was another guy with ambitions of learning to get licensed and certified and so on, a smart guy with a wife who was working a high paying job. I liked working with him because we had similar music tastes. Well he also wanted to start a family, and needed a bigger paycheck for it.

Similarly, he went to the boss about it, who laughed it off at first, asking why he needed more money if his wife was making a lot. Understandably, that pissed him off. I had to talk him down from leaving outright (which I also did for the young guy initially). He stayed with us for a year longer.

He wanted to get a house close to his family so his wife could more easily drop their new child off with their grandmother and go back to working a job herself, and he needed a pay raise to afford that. He had a talk with the boss and was told the boss would think about it over the weekend.

Well, he got a pay raise, but not the amount he asked for, specifically enough to get approved for the house purchase. He stayed with us a while longer but it clearly tanked any enthusiasm he might've had. Would that he was the only time this happened.

Usually they left because they moved on to something else, or the work didn't agree with them. Admittedly, I had less and less time to devote to actually training or teaching them as time went on because we just had to get jobs done and fastest way to do it was for me to do most of the work.

But we had a couple promising people at different points, like a young guy we got straight out of high school who had come to us to work in the office for us, yet we had him working outdoors anyway. He alternated so he knew how to do both, which was really helpful to me.

Thrilled to be at ODU for a conference talking about what it would look like to change the power of the Dillon Rule in Virginia! and fun fact, I’m not the only county supervisor here 👀👀👀

I grew up on this game and loved the hell out of it, it was silly but made me think about how to work out problems. There’s a modern successor to it called Contraption Maker made by the same guy, I’ve tried it and it’s fun. Good for sciency puzzle lovers, surprisingly addictive.

Guess I wasn’t really expecting to be setting any records with the way things are going anyway.
