I can now officially say that I started as a Software Engineer with The Seed Company 🎉 This is an amazing opportunity to help push forward the work of Bible translation. It's cliché, but I'm excited to see what this new chapter of life will bring.

Today is my final day at Northwestern University. After 6 short months, I have been laid off due to the termination of the IMLS grant that funded my position. I worked with an amazing team that led that charge in integrating Ai powered tools wisely into museum & library science.

A real quick prototype adding in zones. - existing OCR data is added to verse milestones in the XML - a build pipeline converts the XML to #iiif manifests with annotations Still gotta figure something out—like if the OCR data in openly licensed!

Is it possible to show highlight/annotate the image given a verse reference?

A milestone for Leningrad Codex TEI: 181 of 924 folios are complete—nearly 20% of the codex is encoded! 📜 Thank you for the great feedback and discussions so far! Here’s an update on progress, new tools, and how you can get involved

The main bottleneck is AI inference. Contributors with a bit of technical experience and $5 can contribute greatly by helping spread cost around. The contributing guide + an agent means you don't even have to deal with code! github.com/charlesLoder...

An `AGENTS.md` file should NOT describe the codebase. It should only tell the agent: - how to respond - business needs not defined in code - maybe a little bit about code quality (or link to a separate coding standards doc) An agent will figure out the codebase on it's own. Thoughts?

🧵New digital resources for Masoretic studies: a megathread. We're living in a golden age of digital tools for the study of the Masoretic text of the Hebrew Bible. This thread compiles recent resources, several of which have launched just this year.

A new project I'm excited to announce! 🎉 Leningrad Codex TEI leningradcodex.page A digital version of L, encoding the columnar layout of the biblical text using TEI. But I need contributors! (see below) Though the text of the mss has received much attention…

Other goals are: - Accessibility by means of a site and permissive licensing (MIT) - Transparency through version control and links to prompts - Reproducibility by a pipeline that could be used by other models

This project hopes to change that, by building on previous work and using AI tools to encode the text. A goal of this project is to make it a community based work with the purpose of alleviating the cost burden on an individual (that's me!) and ensuring that it is not tied to…

little digital work has been done to consider L as an object. The TEI standard provides the framework for encoding the layout of the mss, and sets a foundation for future work—like encoding the Mp and Mm. We have hi-res images of L, but no way to quickly discover text in them

Will be going through the book of James in a bible study. What are good works about economic structure/disparity in the ancient world Is Longenecker's Remember the Poor a good starting point?

The use of "publish" in Isa 52:7 (ESV) struck me as odd. The KJV, RSV, and ASV all use "publish" for מַשְׁמִיעַ. Though "publish" can generally mean 'to make known' including non-text ways (like publishing the banns of marriage), it feels as if the predominant usage has shifted…

Used Gemma4 12b on MacBook M2 Air via Ollama-it’s slow and really only good for smaller tasks to be overnight but the fact you can do this stuff locally at such high quality is mind boggling

Indexing a book with lots of Latin and Greek sources…how do you classicists keep up with this?! Sometimes it's author + title, sometimes just an author, sometimes there's more numbers and letters than a quadratic equation, and ever so occasionally…brackets around the title.

Years ago, when debating continuing in academia or jumping ship, I submitted an article. It was rejected, and the comments left me dejected. It pushed me to pursue tech, for which I'm happy. But lately I feel compelled to return to it Good or bad idea?
