At the outset; I agree, you will have a better social media experience with services that let you curate a reverse chronological feed yourself. That said, people are lazy and it's _much_ easier for the average person to just let the algorithm make decisions for them.

Why are people using the bluesky discover feed

I realize this is a perfect storm of things I'm into that are completely inscrutable to even very nerdy engineers; Temporal, large graph traversal, Go, etc.

"Billionaire proof" social media is an interesting angle, but "large disinfo operation proof" is broadly more useful. How do you track nation state actors? how do you add reputation to a platform? How do you create a space for constructive debate safely? Are more interesting problems to me.

NYC congestion pricing kicks in tonight at midnight; as someone who lives solidly within the affected zone, I will be saddened to be no longer treated to men from Nassau county doing full throttle straight pipe pulls while blasting Pitbull at 110db. A part of the city is dying tonight.

Honestly, it was one of my favorite games and I can't believe how much time I've put into it, except it's like if your favorite movie was 1000 hours long.

At work recently; how would you use Go type constraints to ensure that users passed an argument as a pointer, and the argument implemented an interface on value receivers to prevent race conditions? It's not quite Typescript levels of generic shenanigans but it's pretty cool! 🧵

TaskPointer requires a type implement Task itself, that is on value receivers, and that the passed version is a pointer by embedding the Task type as a pointer in the interface. This is the critical bit!

Then let's imagine there is a function that registers tasks globally, returning a handle that lets you call the task from other tasks. It builds up a constraint for a Task type, but then has an extra type (TaskPointer), and then returns a TaskReference of TaskPointer. What does TaskPointer do?

I gave Threads a shot, I really did. Between the "Instagram explore page of guns and cars" For You algorithm and the inability to default to Following on mobile I'd just rather be elsewhere.

Regardless of what happens in this match, Alcaraz is the real deal and short of him being hit by a bus or something he's going to be a fixture of finals for decades.

Apple Vision Pro; it will be made or broken on how the hardware works for the v0 use cases; watching videos, playing games. That is a lot of money for a VR headset. Without more mass adoption there won't be an app ecosystem for anything outside those core use cases. I still want one.

Kind of want to mess around with this if only to have a custom filtering system.

⚡️ Now ready for development: custom algorithms! We've put together a starter kit with instructions on how to implement your own custom algorithm here. https://github.com/bluesky-social/feed-generator

At what point do we talk about Github's reliability issues being material? We're having to work around issues with Actions / the API enough that I'm considering moving off it.

An invite tree (and barriers to user growth generally) are really only viable with a public benefit company as well, which bsky is already set up as.

Ben Collins@bencollins.bsky.social

She's right. The invite tree is the way social media can scale responsibly. Not only can you identify bad actors, but you can trace lineage of harassment campaigns to where hate groups organize off-site. I don't think this place did this on purpose, but it is miraculous found money.

You are up to date.
