You know the battle is truly lost when even Jeopardy decides to use comprise incorrectly. @kenjennings.bsky.social I know you don't write the questions, but if you have any influence there, please let them know ;_;

I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions. The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

The AI-slop era has lowered the floor so far that anything made by a person is automatically impressive now. Expend any amount of effort and you're in the top 1%! And people still can't do it!

In case you thought "dude is the jerkoff hand gesture incarnate" wasn't a good enough reason to not buy the dude's games, get a load of this:

I gave Braid an A+ back in my press days. I spent 100s of hours working on The Witness at PlayStation, fighting for it, getting it into conferences, and being Jon's personal wrangler. I even coined "Metroidbrainia" after it. I will not be buying Order of the Sinking Star, and neither should you.

Code is art but it is art in the same way that the written word is art, or GUI design is art, which is that to most people it is part of the wallpaper of the universe, not conscious of the fact that someone still has to design their wallpapers

may@maysuser.name

my ultimate thing about "is code art" is that code is art but especially on larger and more corporatized projects code is designed to be so standardized and interchangeable in a way that's largely incompatible with the way we talk about art in the same way that a soap opera is

Many people don't understand probability very well and many of them are resistant to having it explained to them. This leads some designers to creating mechanics that work like the player's instinctive (read: fucking wrong) understanding of probability, further confusing everyone.

This might be the opposite of what you wanted as a response to posting it, but: what in particular drives you mad? Genuinely curious because I have extremely narrow band exposure (my own TTRPG games which often have very high probability literacy) but am making modules I want to share more widely.

Good to have a reminder every once in a while. It's easy to do, and the problem is likely to get worse. So make it a habit.
