I briefly owned a celestial 48 for a few years (sv big moves). Pretty much dove into the deep end of boat ownership and sailing without much experience. Looking back I’m like wtf was I doing but I learned a lot and met a lot of cool people. Sailing a 48’ boat at 7 knots is quite fun

Go to your camera roll, search for “boat”, post one that you like.

created this web server on grain cam so you can develop and download the photos in a browser to a phone. the develop pipeline has a bunch of steps that are too cpu intensive for the esp but i packaged the whole process in wasm and the browser is able to process a photo in a few seconds.

honestly pretty impressed what the esp can do. also battery life is insane. i’ve been using this little camera for weeks and haven’t thought about charging it at all

a few pics from grain cam xpan over the past week. updated the develop flow to get a cleaner image out of the arducam 5mp. probably the best you can get out of this tiny cam but pretty happy with the results. this is using a provia 100 film simulation

sometimes i get really burnt by the negativity of some people on this platform. as a builder i try to block it out as much as i can but i’d lying if i said it doesn’t affect me

grain camera take 2: xpan edition the screen tries to replicate the hasselblad xpan viewfinder, dials, and lcds as much as possible. there's also a film strip view to review photos. made with an esp32 and 5mp camera took it out to the enchantments this weekend. pretty epic it all worked

trick to building hardware with robots, have them write wiring diagrams for you in html also the waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-LCD-3.49 is very cool, turning it into a tiny xpan camera (hopefully) esp32 seems like a way better platform for grain cam than pi and easier to find in stock

the cameras aren't as high quality as you can get on the pi platform (at least what i've found so far) but 5mp might be good enough for the grain. also a lot of the esp32 builds come with everything you need for a camera: power, rtc, accelerometer etc

you can hardly use flickr now without getting the upgrade to pro popup every few photos in the carousel 😒

a few pics from grain camera this weekend. honestly not too bad. this is really just a pi hq, pi 3a+, and a bunch of adafruit breakout boards.

messing around with a grain camera prototype. native atproto support. photos sync to your pds whenever it connects to wifi.

I feel like the @grain.social android app might be better than iOS 😢 Native Android dev feels less abstract to me than iOS and everything just slots in nicely with the design language.

oof, getting an app in the google play store is exhausting, so many screens and questions and also a full on background check of the developer essentially i know this probably for the better but for everyone who demands your app runs on android, just know that its more complicated than ios IMO

footgun, seams, say the word!

Matt Kane@mk.gg

I asked Claude why I kept going on about "seams" and what it meant. Surprisingly it had an answer: "It's a term from Michael Feathers (Working Effectively with Legacy Code): a seam is a place in a program where you can change what happens without editing the code that calls it."

new PDS UI refresh is out, excited to help move it forward!

For the "release on a Friday because we're invincible geniuses" crowd — we have a So Big(!) new PDS, piping hot out of the oven. We've got UI customization, OTel monitoring, session reporting fixes, bigger blobs... our whole summer roadmap! Enjoy. atproto.com/blog/pds-cus...

PDS folks! Working on a redesign of the authentication and dashboard screens for the reference PDS, bringing in a proper component library and consistent patterns across the UI. One notable change: customizable light/dark backgrounds on the auth screens. Let us know what you think! #atproto

More info here github.com/bluesky-soci.... Running the mock ui in the oauth-provider-ui package is an easy way to try it out. Obviously this is what the bluesky branded PDS would look like. As an independent operator you can customize the logo/wordmark, background image, primary color etc

github.comRedesign oauth-provider-ui by bigmoves · Pull Request #5305 · bluesky-social/atprotoSummary Rebuilds oauth-provider-ui on shadcn/ui with Base UI primitives. Same flows, same steps, same copy. Forms keep the browser's native constraint validation, so field errors render in the ...

created a plc backed by sqlite instead of postgres if anyone is interested tangled.org/chadtmiller.... i have a setup for an appview in railway where i create an ephemeral environment per pr against a long running pds and plc with some test accounts for dev.

makes it easier to review prs and also you can use things like claude code web to work on stuff when you're away from your computer

it's always so confusing when my pds runs out space, stuff starts randomly failing and i'm like WHAT IS HAPPENING. giving it some more breathing room this time so i won't have to think about it for a while

Just finished the TMB in 8 days over 100+ miles and 35,000 ft of ascent/decent. Time to rest the legs for a few days 😂
