Can Monarch butterflies cross the Gulf of Mexico? It appears so! TWO tagged monarchs crossed the Gulf of Mexico in the first trans-Gulf monarch crossings recorded by Project Monarch! Can they find their way to Michoacán? Only time will tell! @ryannorrissci.bsky.social

Last fall we GPS-tagged a young saw-whet owl at Cape May Point. By April she was in Downeast Maine. A Long-eared Owl we tagged flew 141 miles in about 4 hours one April night, picked up by phones along the way. Help tag this year's owls: capemayowls.org/give #owls
3/ The goal is $15,000: 5 GPS backpacks, 9 transmitter leg bands, a year of data for each, and new nets. The Cape May Owl Project is independent and funded by donors and partners, including @consciglobal.bsky.social and @nature.org
4/ Last season's owls turned up in Maine, New Hampshire, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec. Banding starts this month. Where will this year's go? capemayowls.org/give

We are so excited to see Paul, Joe and team deploying BlūMorpho tags on Yellow-brows! Meeting Paul and Joe at the EOU meeting in Bangor, Wales, last spring led to some great conversations about tracking vagrant species with this new tech...and now to see those conversations coming to fruition...
First days at the ringing camp in Pape, Latvia 🇱🇻 Main goal is to try these new Blumorpho (Bluetooth) devices, here on a Yellow-browed Warbler. Hopefully, we could get nice trajectories of this species in Europe coupled with the genomic origin of each bird.🤞
...is awesome! We can't wait to see what this team uncovers with these tags; the same tags used to track Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds 1000s of kilometers- now on this tiny charismatic warbler! Please keep us posted, @pauldufour80.bsky.social! #birds #migration #movementecology #ornithology
A Northern Waterthrush tagged in Cape May, NJ left after sunset on Sep 11. Two weeks later it was over Colombia! Jamaica -> Colombia included ~800 km of open Caribbean. 3,082 km so far! @birdscanada.bsky.social @originalstu.bsky.social #MotusWTS #BirdMigration #ornithology @nature.org
