Personally speaking it used to be that 5% of high school grads went to a university and 2% graduated. We structured our education system such that it left out 95% of the kids. The average age of an apprentice in the trades was 27 years. And you ever wonder why the kids are fucked?

It always amazes me that these politicians who present themselves as for the “working class” have never worked a day in their lives as a worker. I guess what boggles my mind is that workers buy that BS. Of all the people who worked on my projects in Alberta it surprises me even more. Disappointing

Now the funniest thing I have read lately was that “independent” rig welders are banding together demanding more money. Now I respect welders for what they do and I am no welder. As a manager of construction I was always entertained about how they screw each other. My jobs was always equal pay.

Well when you think about it for more than 30 seconds a small trailer builder just magically gets the old CPA repair depot my father used to work at and then magically was awarded each and every O&G contract for camps for decades. As I say it’s who you know. Not what you do. And now gas??

The facts are that a university education does not teach common sense. It is hard earned by a thing called work. I began my education in construction digging shit holes for the workers. They were never deep enough and always needed more. A simple fact of life in the patch. And our politicians???

The reality is that most Albertans have no idea which end of a cow shits. Most Albertans have never worked in the patch. They have assumptions presented by the media whose “experts” have never worked in the patch and are “think tank people” paid by corporations. We used to call them educated idiots.

Well I just laugh at all these politicians wanting shovels in the ground to build a pipeline. All these great jobs created. Reality is 6 days of 12 hours or more, slopping in the mud and shit day after day for maybe 3 months. I defy any politician to work one day on a pipeline. And a news outlet.

What Albertans need to understand is that O&G is not your friend. Anyone who has been in the patch knows that companies like ATCO were built on the backs of the patch. If any in Alberta have stayed in the ghettos they should know. And they blame Ottawa? I suggest they look in the mirror

Well Canadians and Albertans let’s have a reality check. It will be a frosty day in hell before any American investment in a pipeline that DOES NOT go to the USA. Prime example is TMX which they would not build. Taxpayers did. Never to see a dime. You want to do it again? If so you are a fool

I recently watched an interview with Ann Southern about how proud to be an Albertan. It reminded me of its not what you know but WHO do you know. It took decades for ATCO to have any competition in the construction trailer business in the patch and I would defy anyone to stay in her “cattle cars”

When you consider the great divide between urban and rural in Alberta it’s a man made creation. What were once thriving communities are all but wastelands left to rot. 2 reasons. - the good old boys club resistant to change - the lack of diversification of the economy throughout the province.

What people tend to forget is that apprenticeship requires participation of BOTH the worker AND employer. The province provides the facility and both the province and municipal governments provide the enforcement. It has fuck all to do with the feds other than EI benefits for school.

I find it rather strange that politicians are bashing Ottawa for youth unemployment when it is a provincial and municipal jurisdiction. Especially in the area of skilled trades. I can only speak of Alberta but our society changed to the idea that all our kids were going to be the next Bill Gates

In my foggy memory we used to have a shopping network. It was called a catalogue where you could even order a house. Every time I see an Amazon truck I always wonder what our post office could have been??? At the same time every computer had its own data center at one time and you could add more

Thankfully I hadn’t eaten yet when watching the MAGA Smith speech.The only thing missing from the performance were the crocodile tears. I would like to give a shout out to all the Alberta election dudes who gave their best to ensure my vote was counted. It was obvious not many at my voting place had much experience in doing elections but bent over backwards in the most sacred duty of all Canadians in not the best of circumstances.

For anyone who have experienced wild fires we all know they can turn on a dime. My first thoughts are those of the victims and those of the first responders who also give their lives to protect others. We like to abuse nature but Mother Nature can be very cruel as well. It’s a tragic loss.

In my foggy memory at one time Canada was the best in everything. And then we fell in love with our “buddies” the Americans. And as we sink in the toilet with Americans we ask ourselves why? So in my foggy memory the “east slope” of Alberta was our haven from society to escape to life. I look at pics of family life as it was in the east country it is totally gone never to return. Our kids or grandchildren will never experience this freedom. The kids don’t give a shit.

What is lost in the conversation is that a jet engine can run on “jet fuel” natural gas or any other fuel you can provide. Just as your home barbecue it runs and just about anything with dinosaur blood. Not so good with wood. Sucks to be a neadrathal when camping.

So let’s think about this for more than 30 seconds Albertans and Canadians. As we look at the fuel trucks filling up our airplanes on Alberta airports we should see every airline in the world coming to Alberta lining up to get our cheap fuel and abundance. WHY NOT??? It’s all in the game.
