This is one of the most powerful depictions of health research-driven progress. No statistics required.

Lots of people citing this one: HIV went from a death sentence to…undetectable and people get to live a full and healthy normal life!!!! I mean that’s amazing.

If you ever suffer from imposter syndrome, look at how experts posted human genome information at NCBI: #SpellingMatters #Genomics #devbio #evodevo 👫

stickers are a charming thing that sort of doesn't have an adult analog like, if you do this task correctly i will give you a tiny sticky art and children are like hell yeah i will

.@SecKennedy has pledged from the start to do studies on vaccines. He has quietly commissioned $46M worth. Here's what they are, and what else is afoot in vaccine policy. (And yes, you read "cockamamie" in the NYT ): 🎁 www.nytimes.com/2026/10/16/u...

Which has changed daily life more, the microscope or telescope? Microscope: many medicines probably? Telescope: GPS? I’m sure there are a bunch of inventions in these two categories I’m missing…

If you are an NIH funded scientist and have not commented, you are agreeing that this change is a good idea. If, you, like me, think ditching peer review is a bad idea, take the 5 minutes and post a comment.

The deadline is approaching! NIH is proposing changes to how peer review is used in funding decisions and how outcomes are reported and they want to hear from you. Comments are due by October 13! Comment here: grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

I've long thought that the solution to the spam problem is that email should be taxed a penny a message. I don't care if you burn the money. I just want the friction. But the ability to use agents to customize bullshit at scale makes me think email should be taxed at a dollar a message.

So before people could send their friends funny Instagram or Twitter posts They could send forwarded emails full of knock knock jokes What was it before that? Humorous cuneiform tablets?

outlook has many toxic traits but one of them is autocorrecting the spelling of people's names IN THE SALUTATION, WHERE YOU KNOW ITS GONNA BE A NAME AND NOT A DICTIONARY WORD

this weekend I got to meet Gritty thanks to Hockey Fights Cancer! Thanks to the NHL, Astrazeneca and the V Foundation for supporting my lab's cancer research!

Related to the #NobelPrize in #Optogenetics: I'm reflecting on the question "who invented X?" in science. 10 years ago I wrote about the people who were working on optogenetics, the patent debates and the role of race and prestige. I don't know the answer, but... www.statnews.com/2016/09/01/o...

statnews.comHe may have invented one of neuroscience’s biggest advances. But you’ve never heard of himThe saga of Zhuo-Hua Pan, perhaps the rightful inventor of optogenetics, raises the question of what it means to invent something in science.

Good end-of-FY coverage by the Times. The amount of unspent funds has wiggled but it was pretty clear for some time now that NSF was simply not going to spend a substantial portion of its congressional appropriation this year.

nytimes.comNational Science Foundation Diverted $1.4 Billion in Science Funds Mandated by CongressThe move, affecting about one-fifth of the National Science Foundation’s primary research budget, is the latest sign of how the White House is asserting more control over grants.

NIH’s shift to multiyear funding reduced the number of awards across a range of research areas. Grants reviewed by NIH panels that had "cancer" or "oncology" in their title dipped to around 1,590 in 2026, compared with 1,920 in 2024. Fewer grants funded means fewer shots on goal, fewer wins

What did NIH spend its budget on this fiscal year, and how has that changed due to Trump administration priorities? @aniloza.bsky.social, @jaspar.bsky.social, and I teamed up for @statnews.com to look at the agency's grants data. Here's what we learned 👇 www.statnews.com/2026/10/02/n...
